CHANCE! Alan Hutton charges back to rob Sterling, just as it looked like the Liverpool man was going to pull the trigger.

And now it's Simon Mignolet's turn to lose his cool. The former Sunderland stopper wanders off his line and balloons the ball into the crowd, then sends a menacing glance at his defence.

Brad Guzan barks and gesticulates at his Villa defence. He is not happy. At all.

Emre Can guides a teasing cross behind for a corner. Here come the big chaps from the back.

BIG stat on six minutes: Paul Lambert and Brendan Rodgers have met seven times as opposition coaches in the Premier League and the Scot has the upper hand with four wins and just two defeats.

CHANCE (of sorts)! Nathan Baker lowers his chin, and bashes the ball goalwards with his head from 15 yards. It goes wide by a fair margin.

Lazar Markovic unleashes a frown as he concedes a free-kick midway inside his own half.

CHANCE! The corner fizzes through the Birmingham sky and goes, untouched, to the backpost. Philippe Coutinho on the volley... Just wide. Cracking effort.

And here are the thoughts of Brendan Rodgers: "We had a difficult game against them earlier in the season where we conceded from a sloppy corner and just couldn't make the breakthrough. But we are on the back of four wins away from home and there is good momentum and confidence in the team."

Paul Lambert really knows how to gee the fans up: "I understand the frustration, and nobody is more frustrated than myself. Everybody involved with Aston Villa is frustrated at what has happened over the last five or six years since Martin O'Neill left and the team was in the top six. Martin had this club buzzing at that time, vying for Europe, going great, and what's happened has happened."

Is there a more boring team in world football than Aston Villa? They've scored a paltry 11 goals - seven fewer than any other Premier League side - but also boast one of the top-flight's stingiest defences. To conclude: if you have both teams to score in your accumulator, apologies in advance.
