For Stoke, floating in the mid-table wasteland, there’s not a great deal to play for, but the prospect of European football still hangs tantalisingly in front of the Saints. Ward-Prowse puts two teasing corners low towards the near post. Stoke somehow deal desperately with both but the pressure is back on when Pelle gets the ball upfield. He bizarrely opts to shoot from range, on the half volley and on the turn. It dribbles miserably towards Begovic.
