Wickham can't get a shot away after momentarily getting round the back of the Arsenal defence, but Sunderland are repelled and now can't break down Arsenal after they drop back.

Monreal handballs on the left wing, giving Sunderland the chance to launch a long ball forward.

Szczesny runs out of the box, heads it away to Van Aanholt about 35 yards out on the left. He has an open goal, but it remains a difficult chance and he sends his shot wide.

Monreal advances down the left, curls in a cross to the near post, and he sends a header just a yard over.

Gomez finds Altidore with a ball over the top of the defence, but he can't connect properly with his shot and the danger passes.

Arsenal retain control of the ball, but they don't look like opening the Sunderland defence, who continue to drop deep despite needing an equaliser.

Bellerin rescues the situation moments after it looks like Wickham has burst past him on the left of the box.

Rodwell is swapped for Gomez, and Altidore on for Johnson.
