Win today and Bournemouth will have reached the 40-point mark at the first time of asking with six games remaining… which would have to rank up there with one of the most impressive managerial feats in Premier League history – particularly given the squad’s lack of experience and crippling injury problems.

Bournemouth, on the other hand, should be in high spirits. The Cherries may have lost 5-1 when these teams met earlier in the season, but things have gone pretty darn well for Eddie Howe’s boys since then. Ten points in their last five games has boosted them well clear of the relegation zone, and even a comprehensive defeat to high-flying Spurs last time out couldn’t take the shine off what has been a hugely impressive campaign.

City are in trouble. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have won just one of their last six and have failed to score in three of their last four (the lone exception being against Aston Villa, which barely counts). The spine of the team are missing, there’s a perception that many of the squad have already thrown in the towel, and it’s Paris Saint-Germain coming up in four days’ time. Frankly, it’s all a bit of a mess, and with City just a point clear of West Ham and Manchester United they could really do with a win today to settle things down.

Goalkeeper Wright has never featured for Manchester City, despite signing for the club way back in 2012. It’s fair to say that he’s been lining his pockets rather effectively since then, limited to a third-choice role and a spot on the bench whenever Joe Hart is injured.

Kevin de Bruyne returns from injury to start for City, which is a major boost to a side shorn of Yaya Toure, Vincent Kompany, Raheem Sterling, Joe Hart and Fabian Delph through injury. Samir Nasri is also back in the squad, taking a spot on the bench alongside Richard Wright.
