Good evening and welcome to LIVE text commentary of the Premier League clash between Tottenham and Aston Villa at White Hart Lane. The in-form hosts are aiming for a victory that would move them fifth and to within one point of the top four while the rock-bottom Villans will hope today's confirmation of Remi Garde's appointment as their new manager will galvanize them into getting a much-needed result after just one victory in 10 league outings so far.

Play has been halted... Spurs fans use the break to sing their adoration for Kane. He responds with a wave.

Westwood down clutching his face after being caught by the arm of Dembele as the Spurs man looked to hold off a challenge.

Eriksen arrows a dangerous left-wing corner right into the heart of the Villa six-yard box but Hutton is on hand to power a header to safety.

It's not been great from the home side. They are on a fine unbeaten run but you wouldn't know it on this display. If they crank it up a gear they could be in for a few goals here.

Villa have improved since that sloppy start but they lack any goal threat.

Bacuna's free kick is only half cleared to Grealish but his attempt from 25 yards is well blocked.
27'
Lloris misjudges a ball on the edge of the area but just about gets enough on it to deny Sinclair what would have been a simple goal. Nervy moments for the under-worked stopper.

Dembele shifts the ball beyond Westwood and fizzes a 25 yarder a couple of yards past Guzan's right-hand post.

More trouble for Villa down that right defensive flank. This time Kane skips free and cuts inside, but his drive is deflected and Guzan is able to tip it over. From the resulting corner Rose shoots from the edge of the box and sees his attempt drop onto the top of the netting. Close to a second there.
22'
Rose with a surging run to the left byline but Bacuna does his duty and manages to win a goal kick out of the tussle.
21'
Hutton goes down in the Spurs half after over-running a dribble inside. The referee doesn't give the free kick, much to his frustration. Earlier in that move Bacuna was crunched by Rose. A real old school challenge that left the Villa man a bit shaken.
20'
Villa have lost 20 of their 29 Premier League matches in 2015, more than any other club.
19'
And the best of what Villa have had to offer so far... Sinclair's run and shot.
18'
Spurs' opener in pictures...
17'
Alli with a chance to get a strike at goal from 25 yards but he dallies too long and is robbed on the edge of the Villa area. The visitors break but Agbonlahor tugs back his man when he didn't need to. The Villa frontman had the legs to chase that down too.
16'
Hutton clips a decent cross into the middle but there's no Villa forward within five yards of it. The full back shrugs his shoulders and his body language suggests he thinks someone should be trying to attack it. He's not wrong!
15'
Bad news for Villa? Stat: Spurs have only conceded two goals in their last six home games against Villa.
14'
Lescott leaves a ball into the right-hand channel towards Kane and breaths a sigh of relief as the forward comes within a whisker of pipping Guzan to it.
12'
Dembele's goal was the third fastest in the PL this season. (Ritchie 00:49, Milner 01:06).

Superb feet from Sinclair. The forward jinks in from the left, bewitching three defenders before stinging the palms of Hugo Lloris with thumping drive.
