BLUES FORM: Everton come into this in buoyant mood having beaten Arsenal at Goodison last Tuesday. It brought an end to a disappointing run and was only their second league success in 11 attempts. On a positive note, the Blues have not lost at Goodison in the PL since March, winning six of their 11 matches.

REDS FORM: Liverpool won convincingly at Middlesbrough last time out and are looking to build on a run of just one loss in 14 league outings. The Reds’ rearguard is showing signs of tightening up too. The shut out at the Riverside was their third in five matches.

ARE EVERTON DUE? Liverpool have tasted defeat in just three of the last 33 meetings in the Premier League. Those three losses all came at Goodison. The Reds are currently unbeaten in 11 Merseyside derbies.

Overall league record in the Merseyside derby at Goodison: Everton 34 wins, Liverpool 32, 31 draws... Last season the Goodison derby finished 1-1. Romelu Lukaku cancelled out Danny Ings' opener. A largely forgettable contest is now best remembered for being Brendan Rodgers' last stand as Reds boss.

James McCarthy: "Under the floodlights at Goodison you can see the atmosphere and it's one you want, one we're all really excited about. It's definitely always a big game, it's your rivals and you want to get one over them. When the game comes, we'll be ready."

Jurgen Klopp: "We all want a loud stadium, a really emotional crowd around and all that stuff, even though most of them will be on Everton’s side, but that’s no problem because it’s so loud it could be a target to cool them down a little bit with the way you play. The last game against Arsenal was a good example. In the first few minutes, Arsenal were really strong and it was not the best atmosphere but the moment the crowd saw them starting to strike back then it was a really good atmosphere. We watched the game in our hotel. It was good to see from a neutral perspective. But our job is to make Goodison Park as quiet as possible."

The tagline 'Mersey Monday' may well make you cringe, but derbies on this day of the week tend to be good ones for the Blues.

Ronald Koeman: "Klopp and I are different from each other. I don’t have any problem provided there is respect. I am myself, I do what I think I need to do and don’t do anything different. My character is my character. Maybe he looks more passionate than I do, but if you are so passionate then sometimes you lose a lot of things in your function as a manager. Always you need as a manager to show passion for football to your players. Maybe it’s good that I’m not from the area because we need to be focused. Of course, it’s a different one because it is a derby, but my message will be don’t be nervous and play your game, that is the most important thing."

Divock Origi: “It will be a war, but we go there in a very positive way. You want to win this game. You know it will not be easy, it is a derby so it will be special and a very big and important game for us as a club. We have to prepare it well."

You have to go back six years for the last time the blue half of Merseyside were victorious. The Toffees won 2-0 against Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool in October 2010.
