Jermain Defoe is the only player in the Sunderland starting 11 with more than one Premier League goal this season.

Tottenham's win means Man City will go third should they avoid defeat.

With Chelsea so far ahead Manchester City’s focus should probably be on securing a Champions League spot for next season rather than the title. A win today would take them five points clear of Arsenal and six of Manchester United.

Pep Guardiola meanwhile was rolling out the cliches pre-game. “During the season, we have had some good moments, some not so good,” he said. “We are in a good moment now but we have to repeat it in every single game again and again. Every game will be a final, not just for the title contenders, for the teams playing for Champions League qualification, Europa League, relegation. Every game will be tough until the end of the season.” Some tougher than others though, you imagine.

David Moyes knows his side face a difficult task but can take heart from recent home draws versus some of Manchester City's top four rivals. “We know how tough it’s going to be; I was able to see a great game against Monaco so we know what they’re capable of, and I think everyone expected that at the start of the season,” he said. “They have top players but we need to make sure we do everything we can to nullify them and get something from the game. Against Liverpool and Tottenham we played well and I think the players did well, so we have to make sure we do well again."
