Liverpool have had 73 per cent of possession thus far, but they have struggled to create an opening just yet. It's all been rather scrappy.

Burnley could go five league games without a win for the first time since a seven-match streak between February and April 2017.

A mistake by Alexander-Arnold sees Liverpool concede possession in midfield. Burnley work the ball into Barnes but he fails to keep his shot down from just inside the area.

Wave after wave of Liverpool attack in the early stages here. Oxlade-Chamberlain finds space to deliver a cross on the left flank, but he doesn't get his angles right and it sails out for a goal-kick.

Oxlade-Chamberlain feeds Lallana who arrows in a cross. He only has Solanke to aim for and Burnley hack the danger clear.

Liverpool supporters will be pleased to see Lallana back at the heart of their midfield - the former Southampton man hasn't started a game this season.

Lallana curls in an inviting cross but it just evades Solanke and Burnley have a throw-in at the opposite side.

Liverpool, and Lallana, have made a bright start to this encounter.

Liverpool win a free-kick which Oxlade-Chamberlain pumps into the penalty box. Lovren rises highest, but he can only loop his header into the air but still Burnley fail to clear. It falls to Lallana who skies his effort into row-Z on his return.

And Burnley get us underway!

"The goal, still, is to build on last season," said Dyche. "When you get that goal achieved, whenever that day comes when we get the same points or more, hopefully, then we'll reassess.

"There's a lot of psychology talk about goal-setting of course, and you have versions of that. But I think you've got to be careful with that because they can be limiters as well. So we try not to limit the players."

After a remarkable season so far, Burnley find themselves in seventh, and not too far behind fourth-placed Liverpool.

In fact, if they can manage a victory this afternoon, the Clarets would be only four points adrift of the Reds.
