Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expects both players to return to full training next week, but says the match comes too soon for them. They are also likely to miss the Champions League trip to Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday.
But Egypt striker Mohamed Salah - who has scored five goals and provided three assists in the Premier League - is set to make the match against in-form Arsenal after battling against inflammation of a tendon in his arm.
“Being without two midfielders should always be possible to deal with. A third one would be more problematic," said Klopp.
"They are in the time we expected, we didn’t have to rush there was no reason for trying to get them ready.
“It’s good for us that we could deal with it the way we did, the boys did well with the change of the system."
Unai Emery's side are fourth in the table, but will move to within one point of Liverpool with three points.

Klopp is expecting a frantic encounter.
"It's a tough game," said the German coach, who lost 3-1 to Emery's Sevilla in the 2016 Europa League final.
"Nobody gave them presents and gave them points. They have deserved it. We have to be ready, for sure.
"It's always been a big challenge for us. They are really strong. Unai Emery had a big task after what felt like 50 years of Arsene Wenger. He has done really well after a tough start. Impressive run.
"Quarter of the season is nothing. It's still the start. As long as the boys are fit, we have a really good football team."
