Arsenal open to Gabriel Jesus summer sale to fund new striker bid - Paper Round

Gabriel Jesus' position is no longer safe at Arsenal, with The Athletic writing that the striker could be sold in the summer.

Eddie Nketiah and the Brazilian forward are both at risk as Arsenal may raise funds to buy a new striker this summer.

The website states: “When Jesus arrived at Arsenal in 2022, manager Mikel Arteta said he 'changed our world'. But now, Arsenal’s world has changed again. While Jesus is under contract until 2027, his future is not guaranteed. If an offer were to arrive for the 27-year-old Brazil international in the forthcoming transfer window, Arsenal would be prepared to listen.

“Until recently, it had seemed a certainty Arsenal would add a new centre-forward this summer.

“Havertz’s form and growing need in other areas have led to their priorities shifting somewhat. They remain interested in acquiring a new attacker, and would be open to selling Eddie Nketiah — or potentially even Jesus — to facilitate that.”

Bayern Munich's Thomas Muller and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting are among the forward players linked with a summer move to Manchester United.

The Mirror reports that Jim Ratcliffe is shifting his attention to the transfer market.

The paper writes: “Most of the work has been completed behind the scenes, but it continues front of house, where Erik ten Hag’s future as manager is far from certain ahead of the summer. The United squad is in a similar position of uncertainty, with young stars Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Kobbie Mainoo the only players not on the chopping block in the transfer window.

“Ratcliffe knows the club need to sell before they can buy, with the Premier League ’s profit and sustainability rules taking a grip after they shelled out over £170million last summer to bring in Hojlund, Mason Mount and Andre Onana, while over £200m was spent in the summer of 2022 to sign Casemiro, Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia.

“Finding a striker could be difficult, but they have previously been linked with Bayern Munich duo Thomas Muller and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, as well as Stuttgart star Serhou Guirassy and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. Brighton star Evan Ferguson has been a long-term target, while Newcastle ’s Alexander Isak will attract a lot of attention from rival Premier League clubs this summer.”

Brentford are getting ready for the departure of Ivan Toney as the striker is expected to leave in the summer, with Manchester United reportedly keen.

The Sun report that Ellie Simms of Coventry is one potential replacement, with Bournemouth also eyeing up the player.

The paper claims: “Ellis Simms is wanted by two Premier League clubs this summer.

“The Coventry City hitman has lit up the Championship this season after a slow start following last summer’s switch from Everton.

“SunSport can exclusively reveal that at least two top-flight sides have been tracking him over recent months.

“Brentford and Bournemouth - who both face losing strikers in the summer - have been scouting the target man.

“The Bees look set to sell England international Ivan Toney with Manchester United now in the hunt for the ace.”

West Ham are yet to tie down Aaron Cresswell and Angelo Obgonna down to new deals, with the club also yet to decide on their manager for next season.

Julen Lopetegui, Paulo Fonseca, Hansi Flick and Ruben Amorim are all candidates to replace David Moyes.

The Evening Standard states: “Aaron Cresswell and Angelo Ogbonna are yet to be offered new West Ham deals as the club wait to resolve their uncertain managerial situation.

“The veteran defenders are each due to be out of contract this summer but it is thought that both would be open to the offer of an extension.

“Whether that arrives, however, will depend on who is in the dugout, with David Moyes’s own deal set to expire at the end of the campaign.

“No final decision has yet been made over the Scot’s future but the hunt for a potential successor is already underway amid a growing expectation he will leave the club this summer. Talks have been held with Sporting’s Ruben Amorim and former Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui, while Lille boss Paulo Fonseca and Hansi Flick are also on the club’s radar.”
