Rafa Benitez's name is being chanted from the visiting supporters. Their side have barely had a kick - Man City have had 74 per cent of possession - yet the scores are level. Football is fantastic.

Who on the earth saw this coming? Yedlin levels the scores totally against the run of play! It's lazy defending from City, they fail to pick up the run of the Newcastle defender as he makes a late surge into the box to poke home Rondon's cross.

Newcastle have been equally as poor in attack as they have been in defence.

SAVE!
Jesus peels away from his marker to meet Silva's delivery but he catches the ball with his nose rather than his forehead and Dubravka has a comfortable save to make.

Silva draws a foul on the edge of the penalty area, on the left side. The little Spaniard is over it as he prepares to cross the ball into a packed penalty area...

Newcastle, or rather Ki, makes a mess of a rare foray forward. The midfielder curls his cross too close to Ederson, much to the frustration of Rondon who had made a decent run to the back post.

Newcastle are desperately struggling to get out of their own half; Benitez's gameplan went out of the window as early as the eighth minute. And this could be a terribly long evening for the travelling supporters. It's important they don't concede again before the half-time whistle.

DECENT SAVE!
City continue to swarm forward in large numbers in search for a second, and they go close once more. Aguero threads a lovely pass to Jesus who checks back to narrow the angle before curling the ball into the arms of Dubravka.

JUST WIDE!
The hosts smell blood, they get the sense they could put this game to bed really early. And they almost do. Aguero flashes a shot just wide from 25 yards - he was aiming for the same corner that Sterling found just minutes ago.
15'
It's worth noting that Man City are unbeaten in their last 21 top-flight games against Newcastle (W18 D3) - their longest ever unbeaten run against a specific top-flight opponent.

After a somewhat disappointing World Cup campaign with England, Sterling is back to his best at Man City this season. Pep seems to get the best out of the flying flanker.

Newcastle invite even more pressure as Lascelles underhits a pass to Yedlin! City can only force a corner this time, which is cleared at the near post.
9'
Lascelles made the headlines for the wrong reasons earlier this week after it was reported the Newcastle captain fell out with team mate Matt Ritchie on the training ground, and it appears his head is somewhere else this evening.

GOAL! Man City 1-0 Newcastle
Raheem Sterling with a typical Raheem Sterling goal.
Unforgivable from Lascelles as his casual pass gifts City possession in a dangerous area. Mendy works the ball to Sterling in a wide area and the Englishman is allowed to cut in and punishes Newcastle with a curled finish into the far corner.

Well, what is that all about? Newcastle have all their players forward for a free-kick, but opt to play the ball short and all the way back to their goalkeeper.

WIDE!
Oh, you don't see that often from Mahrez. On his first start for his new club, the Algerian is fed on the right wing, he cuts into the centre - as he likes to do - but makes a mess of his shot, pulling it wide from inside the box.

It appears that City are lining up in 4-1-3-2 formation, with Mahrez and Sterling occupying the flanks.
