In the buildup to the game, Lampard has insisted Christian Pulisic will not be allowed to leave on loan on January. The American is again on the bench today.

The Blues boss said: "With Christian he’s come to us in a big move, let’s make no mistake about it, and then he’s just turned 21 recently, and we’ve got a competitive squad here.

"I said it before the last game, I always have a problem who to pick and people make my decisions in training or how they’re playing, and at the minute with winning four on the bounce I need the edge of staying in the team and keep performing and everyone is the same.

"With Christian coming here, we have to protect him for that fact because he’s young. Christian, as with every player in the squad, needs to work hard in training, keep improving in training, see the direction we’re going, be a part of it, and show what you can do on a match day, and all the players are the same there."

Papiss Cisse's jaw-dropping volley sealed Newcastle's last win at the Bridge in 2012, en route to a fifth-placed finish under Alan Pardew. Since then Chelsea have won the last seven home meetings.

And Lampard's side are on a four-match wining run.

Steve Bruce has had to leave a few players out of the squad including Ki and Manquillo after his injury list was shortened.

He said: "I've got to disappoint a few, because when you do have that many, you are leaving four or five behind.

"So it is good to see some of them around the training ground again.

"See what they could do, people like Dwight Gayle and DeAndre Yedlin to see what they've got.

"That can only be a good thing for us."

Lampard is unlikely to give a warm Del Boy-style Bonjour to former Blues midfielder Deschamps anytime soon after Kante's injury while on international duty.
