After keeping the ball for an aeon, City eventually find Foden in some space in the final third. He dances past two and then cuts wide of Hernandez in the area, before dragging his shot wide of goal. He really is some talent.

CHANCE! A feeble free kick from Ritchie gives possession back to Ederson. He picks out Mahrez with a glorious long ball over the top. Mahrez has to wait for it a little after it bounces, and swivels to hit a half volley from 18 yards that Dubrakva gathers safely. He had so much time there.

That was a lovely goal from City; their social media team certainly think they're far from done tonight.

GOAL! Manchester City 1 (Jesus 10) Newcastle United 0
City take the lead with a beautifully simple goal. Foden gets it on the left, and slides a ball to Silva in the penalty area. Silva drills it across the six-yard box to where Jesus is waiting to side-foot the ball home.

City win the first corner of the night. He whips it into the six-yard box and it's comfortably taken by Dubravka.

Mahrez, I suspect not for the last time tonight, cuts infield from the right and beats two players. He then shoots from 20 yards but it bounces straight into the hands of Dubravka.
2'
Lazaro goes on a purposeful run, past two tackles and into the City area. De Bruyne gets back to shoulder him off the ball and win back possession for City.

The players all take the knee, because black lives matter.

We’re almost ready to go here. Your referee tonight is Andy Madley.
17:50
A quick word on Newcastle's recent record when visiting City: bad.
17:45
The reverse of this fixture in November was a tasty 2-2 draw at St James Park. Kevin De Bruyne hit a screamer that looked like it had won the game for City, only for Jonjo Shelvey to nick a point for Newcastle with a lovely strike of his own two minutes from time.
17:40
Historically there’s not much between the two; City have won 69 matches in all competitions to Newcastle’s 72, with 40 draws.
17:35
Newcastle can go up to 11th if they win tonight. If they can pull of a real upset and win by two clear goals, they’ll be in the top half of the table for the first time since December. To do that, the hosts will need to perform an awful lot better than they did in the recent 6th round FA Cup tie, where City strolled to a 2-0 win at St James Park.
17:31
It’s an unfamiliar end to the league season for City. In recent years with five games to go they’ve either been preparing to lift the trophy or right in the mix for it. Liverpool are champions and its highly unlikely City will drop enough points to drop down the table from where they are now. So, here they sit, marooned in second place. There’s still plenty for City’s players to focus their minds on though; a cup treble is still a possibility, with the FA Cup and Champions League to potentially add to the EFL Cup they won in February.
17:25
Steve Bruce has gone for an overhaul too and makes six changes for Newcastle. Jamaal Lascelles, Javier Manquillo, Isaac Hayden, Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron and Dwight Gayle are all replaced by DeAndre Yedlin, Danny Rose, Fabian Schar, Nabil Bentaleb, Valentino Lazaro and Matt Ritchie.
17:20
There are five changes for City after their surprise defeat at Southampton on Sunday. Eric Garcia, Aymeric Laporte, Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho and Raheem Sterling are replaced by Nicolas Otamendi, John Stones, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden.
