This shape seems to suit Everton quite well. Calvert-Lewin has been very involved in the match. He seems to be benefiting from having Kean alongside him in the form of some support.

It was actually Newcastle United who made the better start of the two teams, but Everton are well on top at the moment. They seem to have much more energy about them.

That's only the eighth goal that Newcastle United have conceded in the Premier League at St James' Park this season. They've got a lot of work to do to turn this one around, though.

That's Calvert-Lewin's seventh goal of the season and he has now scored in Ancelotti's first two games as Everton manager. That was a good finish from the Toffees striker. Everton are ahead.

Of course, Almiron broke his Premier League scoring duck on Boxing Day. The Paraguayan has played well for Newcastle since joining last January, but will the goals flow now?

Sigurdsson whips a corner kick into the Newcastle penalty area from the right side, but the hosts defend it well. Everton have aerial presence and can cause problems from set pieces.

Straight at Pickford! Another chance for the home team to take an early lead. Carroll bundles the ball through to Joelinton, he turns and gets the shot away, but it was fairly tame.

As mentioned in the build up, Carroll, Hayden and Shelvey didn't play against Manchester United on Boxing Day and so they should be pretty fresh for the Magpies today.

It's a pretty full St James' Park for this match this afternoon. There was a 10,000 season ticket giveaway and that seems to have made up for the number of fans who had been boycotting matches.

There's no doubting that Newcastle United have started the better of the two teams. They are on the front foot and really could have been ahead already after that Almiron chance.

Almiron looked at the referee in a plea for a penalty kick. He felt that there was contact with Keane, but nothing was given. Newcastle United have come flying out of the blocks here.

He's missed it! What a glorious opportunity for Newcastle United to take the lead within the opening two minutes. Joelinton slipped a ball in behind for Almiron, but he toe-pokes his effort wide. He was falling over as he took the shot.
