Lamptey takes an arm in the face, so there's a break while he recovers.

Lamptey swings over a lovely cross and Maupay gets slightly ahead of it, craning his torso to head up into the air for Kepa to catch. That was a chance.

Chelsea will be delighted to welcome Brighton onto them, Werner especially, and he springs forward then shoots into feet.

GOAL! Brighton & Hove Albion 0-1 Chelsea (Jorginho pen) The hop, the skip and Ryan goes to his left, so Jorginho goes to his right. Brighton will be sick and rightly so, because they've gifted a goal that wasn't being threatened.

PENALTY TO CHELSEA! Alzate plays a blind square pass and Jorghinho is onto it, immediately finding Werner, who nips around Ryan, who brings him down. He does well to avoid a red card, but it's the right call because it wasn't a gratuitous foul.

A lovely little triangle between March, Alzate and Trossard allows the latter into the box, but he can't find Maupay.

James plays into Havertz but Webster sees him coming and intercepts.

Mount controls nicely and swings in a cross that Werner glides towards, but he can't quite get the glance that it needs.

This has got very dull very quickly.

A quiet period.

Webster's kick goes deep and is sent back across by Bissouma, but Trossard can't catch up with it.

Maupay pulls right and hammers in a cross that might just find Trossard, but Zouma gets his body in the road, ceding a corner.

Chelsea are sort of waiting for it to click. James has a go and moving down the right, but can't pick a pass into Werner.

I wonder if, when Ziyech is ready, Mount will play off the left. That'd leave Chelsea without much natural width, so Lampard's ideal situation is probably Callum Hudson-Odoi earning the shirt. But he's got a lot of work to do.

Brighton have started well here.

Mount comes short for Zouma, turns, and curves a decent ball in behind for Havertz ... but it's just too strong.

Chelsea knock it about, but Brighton's press forces them backwards.

Alan Smith talks about Thiago Silva, and I guess he might bring some leadership and composure. Maybe I was just unlucky, but he's not a player I've ever seen play all that well, and had he been around a decade earlier, when the standard of centre-back was exceptional, he wouldn't have been in the top 10 in the world.

Lamptey looks a real player and he outpaces Mount then plays into and off Trossard, but his next go, off Maupay, doesn't quite work out.

Webster charges forward and whacks a hopeful one miles from everywhere.

First flash of Werner, running in behind to demand a ball from James, who lifts in behind; he does well to catch up with it and crosses well, but it turns out he mistimed his run and was offside. He's so quick he doesn't need to, a line I won't be the first or last to write or speak.
