    Indeed.

Supreme defending by Fabinho once again. Werner charges through the middle as Chelsea catch the visitors out once more. He looks to twist beyond the Brazilian, who reads it well and out-muscles the forward to avert the danger.

Chelsea break at speed through Werner and Havertz. It's shifted from left to right. Kante is played in by Mount, but refuses the chance to shoot and ends up turning back. Let off for Liverpool.

CLOSE! Salah beats Kepa to a ball on the far right of the area and steers it back into the middle. The keeper is in no man's land, but gets away with it when Christensen blocks at point blank range from Firmino.

Wijnaldum fires just wide of Kepa's right-hand post with an attempt from distance. Pretty much the only incident of note so far. Very cagey stuff at present.

Interesting stat to highlight given the concern over their defending since lifting the title.

Liverpool having some joy down the left in the early stages. Andy Robertson looking to maraud at will. He's pulled back a couple of low crosses from the byline already, but so far Chelsea's rearguard have been well placed to handle the danger.

STAT: Chelsea have only lost their opening home match in only two of 28 Premier League campaigns. That was against Blackburn (2-1) in 1993 and v Burnley (3-2) in 2017.

Alexander Arnold whips a probing ball in-behind for the diagonal run of Salah, but Kepa is alert and races off his line to gather.

Meanwhile, Lampard says Callum Hudson-Odoi needs to work hard in training if he is to earn a place in Chelsea's starting lineup. The England man is on the bench today.

Klopp: "Last year we played Chelsea pretty often and pretty early in the season. All the games were really difficult, so that's what I expect, first and foremost. The first game against Brighton was how it looks when you play Brighton. I'm not sure but when you play Brighton we all suffer because they just play good football and you have to be decisive in the key moments and that was the story of the game pretty much. It's clear we actually have absolutely no idea who Frank will line up – so many different options. Because we don't know a lot about Chelsea in the moment – during the season that will probably change – we just have to focus on ourselves."
