Full-time: A pulsating encounter ends Crystal Palace 3-2 Aston Villa as Roy Hodgson's side came from behind twice to take maximum points.
Villa win a controversial free-kick and if this goes in Hodgson will be fuming. No need to worry though as Konsa heads over the bar.
Close! Targett crosses for Davis but his header comes off his shoulder and the ball drifts over the bar. Was that Villa's final chance?
- Yellow cardWilfried ZahaCrystal Palace
Yellow card! Zaha receives his sixth caution of the season for a foul from behind on Douglas Luiz.
FOUR minutes will be added on at the end of the game.
Eze wins the argument to take the free-kick but it's straight at Martinez who makes an easy save.
- OffJacob RamseyAston Villa
- OnKeinan DavisAston Villa
Villa sub: Davis comes on for Ramsey.
- Yellow cardKortney HauseAston Villa
Yellow card! Hause goes into the book for bringing down Zaha as Palace look to put this game to bed.
GOAL! Crystal Palace 3-2 Aston Villa (Tyrick Mitchell): Palace are ahead for the first time this afternoon! Mitchell grabs his first senior goal after Villa failed to clear from Zaha's cross. Eze's shot is mishit and it falls into the path of the 21-year-old who bundles it over the line!
Off the woodwork! For the second time this afternoon Palace are denied by the crossbar! Everyone is expecting the cross but Eze goes for goal, whipping his shot towards the far post but he can only watch as it smashes off the woodwork.
Zaha and Eze link up, with the former teeing up the latter but Konsa is there to make the block.
Grealish is looking sharp as he rides a couple of challenges before feeding El Ghazi, as Villa win another corner. Ten minutes remaining, can either side grab a late winner?
Villa come again in search of a third. McGinn crosses to the back post where Grealish drills a volley back into centre but Kouyate mops up.
- GoalWilfried ZahaCrystal Palace
GOAL! Crystal Palace 2-2 Aston Villa (Wilfried Zaha): Palace are level once again! Zaha drives down the left flank, carves inside and fires a shot at goal. It takes a deflection off Elmohamady, wrong-footing the goalkeeper and yet again Villa let a lead slip.
Watkins runs onto McGinn's through ball but Butland makes the save. It wouldn't have counted as the offside flag is raised.
Yellow card! Yet another foul on Grealish and this time Ward goes into the book, as Villa win a free-kick close to the corner flag on the left. It comes to nothing.
Block! Eze drives forward menacingly, opens up his body and curls a shot towards goal. Hause anticipates it and makes an important headed block to keep Villa ahead.
He's barely on the pitch two minutes and Grealish has already won Villa a free-kick, this one on the left flank. It's comfortable for Butland to deal with as he rises highest to claim the delivery.
- OffBertrand TraoréAston Villa
- OnJack GrealishAston Villa
Villa sub: Here comes Grealish who will get just short of half an hour as he replaces Traore.
Save! El Ghazi hammers the free-kick hard and low, and it's incredibly difficult for the goalkeeper to see through the crowd of bodies. Somehow Butland makes the save, the rebound falls to Konsa whose effort is also blocked.
Some respite for Villa as El Ghazi wins a free-kick on the left in a dangerous area.
Off the woodwork! Palace win another corner and Benteke is inches away from a second goal as his header crashes off the crossbar! Did Martinez get a faint touch to it? Maybe. That's another warning for Villa.
Close! Zaha comes for a short corner and rolls the ball across the face of goal - but there's no one there. He throws his hands up in frustration
There may be a number of players out of contract in the Palace team but there's no doubting their effort today. Their pressing is too much for Villa at the moment and the visitors are really struggling to get a hold of the ball.
Palace are well on top at the moment, as Villa are camped in their own half. Eze picks up a pocket of space just outside the penalty area and is teed up by Benteke, but his shot is blocked.
Eze's free-kick delivery is inviting but Villa stand tall defensively and Ramsey completes the clearance.
- Yellow cardJohn McGinnAston Villa
Yellow card! McGinn makes a cynical foul on Eze and deservedly goes into the book.
A let-off for Martinez! The Villa goalkeeper takes a heavy touch after receiving the back pass, Benteke is ready to pounce but Martinez makes a sliding tackle to make the recovery and spare his blushes.
- 2nd Half
Kick-off! We are underway in the second half. More of the same, please! No changes in personnel at this stage.
Half-time: Villa win a corner but Benteke heads clear and that will be that for the first half.
Two minutes will be added on at the end of a thoroughly entertaining first half.
Zaha is much more involved in the contest now and he cuts inside from the left flank before rolling it into the path Cahill. Under pressure from the Villa defence, he pokes wide. However, he was in an offside position and it wouldn't have counted had he scored.
Both sides have registered eight shots each, but that doesn't tell half the story. Keep it coming!
With little to play for other than pride, this game was always likely to be open and that's exactly how it has turned out. Palace are back on the attack as it drops to Zaha, who carves inside and gets his shot away but it's straight at Martinez.
- GoalAnwar El GhaziAston Villa
GOAL! Crystal Palace 1-2 Aston Villa (Anwar El Ghazi): McGinn does well to drive to the byline and his cross is headed up rather than out by Kouyate. Watkins flicks it into the path of El Ghazi who smashes it home. Dreadful defending and Villa are ahead again.
- GoalChristian BentekeCrystal Palace
GOAL! Crystal Palace 1-1 Aston Villa (Christian Benteke): Benteke scores against his former club! It's the third game in a row in which he's scored now, as he climbs highest to head down Mitchell's beautifully floated cross and the ball nestles in the corner.
Villa have been sloppy since taking the lead. It's been all Palace since, with Hodgson's side dominating possession and looking much more likely to score the next goal.
A lovely move from Palace, with Eze, Zaha and Benteke involved. Benteke holds it up and backheels it into the path of Zaha who has just the goalkeeper to beat... but he scoops it over the bar. It wouldn't have counted in any case as the referee spotted something in the build-up and brings play back.
Save! More Palace pressure as Eze wins a free-kick 25 yards out. Townsend wins the argument to take it and forces Martinez into a straight forward save.
Shot! It has taken Villa to score to spark Palace into life, and here they come once more. A free-kick delivery falls kindly to Cahill at the back post but he can't keep his shot down as he volleys over the bar.
Better from Palace, who finally force Martinez into a save. Schlupp forces his way into the penalty area before releasing a shot from the angle but the Villa keeper isn't really troubled as he makes the save.
- GoalJohn McGinnAston Villa
GOAL! Crystal Palace 0-1 Aston Villa (John McGinn): It has been coming - no one can say Villa don't deserve their lead. They push Palace back and Cahill fails to clear his lines from a cross. It falls to McGinn, who places a lovely shot into the far corner.
Close! Again it's Hause who meets the corner delivery and yet again he fails to hit the target with his header!
Save! Another Villa chance comes and goes. Schlupp makes a mess of his clearance as he passes straight to Watkins. His angled shot has plenty of power but it's straight at Butland who tips it over the bar.
Watkins' cross is deflected behind for yet another Villa corner. The visitors are well on top here.
So close! Hause is left unmarked at the back post to meet El Ghazi's corner delivery and his header is just wide of Butland's goal.
There's a debate as to whether Villa should have a corner or not but the decision goes the visitors' way.
A first sight of goal from Palace as Townsend races forward on the counter, picking out Benteke with an accurate cross. The Belgian has Elmohamody to compete with and although Benteke wins the header, the Villa defender does just enough to put him off as his effort sails wide of the target.
Schlupp and McGinn clash heads but thankfully both players are fine, as Villa win a free-kick on the right channel. They pass up the opportunity to deliver it into the box, instead working it short but make a bit of a mess of it.
Villa have started the brightest and win a free-kick on the left flank. Targett swings it in towards the far post where Kouyate rises highest to head clear.
Chance for Villa! The visitors carve open the Palace defence all too easily, with Watkins running onto a ball over the top. He looks up and rolls it across to Ramsey, he has to hit the target but slices it wide. Ramsey's wait for a first goal for Villa continues.
Kick-off! We are underway at Selhurst Park.
FIVE minutes until kick-off! It's Crystal Palace versus Aston Villa in the Premier League, it's LIVE and it's NEXT!
Will we see Grealish today? He'll likely play the last half hour. With the Euros now just weeks away, he'll have his eyes set on playing the last 180 minutes of the Premier League season.
All smiles before kick-off...
Did you know? Crystal Palace have lost just one of their last 12 home league games against Aston Villa (W6 D5), going down 0-1 in December 2014.
“I think we’re building a squad that’s capable of challenging in the top half of this league. We want to keep progressing,” Smith said in a pre-match press conference. “I thought the first half of the season was very good. We’ve been a bit hit and miss in the second half but individually you can see we’ve got better players now and more depth for playing in the Premier League. That’s something we’ve worked hard to create and they will be better next season from playing this one.
For much of the season, it appeared Villa had all the credentials to challenge for a European place. But inconsistent form since January means they are battling just to make the top 10. All considered, however, after narrowly escaping the drop last season, Dean Smith will be delighted with how this term has panned out on the whole.
There are three Palace players starting today whose deals expire at the end of the season - Cahill, Townsend and Benteke. There is also some doubt as to whether Hodgson will stay at the club and when he was asked about his future on Friday, he said: "I haven’t talked about retirement as yet. There will come a time when I do, but I’m not talking about it yet.”
Palace boss Hodgson questioned the commitment of his players after the 3-1 defeat to Southampton last week and he'll be looking for a response from them today. With as many as 10 players out of contract this summer though, that might be a big ask.
Jack Grealish is on the bench for Villa again as he works towards full fitness. Ollie Watkins returns from suspension and replaces Keinan Davis. Tyrone Mings misses out through injury so Kourtney Hause comes in.
In a bid to stop the rot, Palace boss Roy Hodgson makes FIVE changes to the side that lost at Southampton. Jack Butland makes his debut for the club in goal, while Gary Cahill, James McCarthy, Jeffrey Schlupp and Andros Townsend also come in.
TEAM NEWS - Crystal Palace XI: Butland, Ward, Kouyate, Cahill, Mitchell, McCarthy, Eze, Schlupp, Townsend, Benteke, Zaha.. subs: Hennessey, Guaita, Batshuayi, Kelly, Mateta, Ayew, Riedewald, Dann, Tomkins /// Aston Villa XI: Martinez, Elmohamody, Konsa, Hause, Targett, Luiz, McGinn, Ramsey, Traore, Watkins, El Ghazi.. subs: Steer, Taylor, Barkley, Grealish, Davis, Chukwuemeka, Wesley, Engles, Nakamba.
