Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of Everton's Premier League clash with Newcastle from Goodison Park. Everton can go fifth with victory today as they continue their fine first season under Carlo Ancelotti, but Newcastle's campaign just goes from bad to worse, with off-field discrepancies this week adding to their woes. On the pitch, they are without a win in nine, and falling closer to the drop zone by the week.

So here we go. Newcastle's task at hand is a tall order - Everton have lost just one of their last eight Premier League games (W5 D2), going down 0-1 against West Ham on New Year’s Day.

No Premier League side is on a longer current run without a win than Newcastle (9), while the Magpies’ run of five consecutive defeats in the competition is also the current longest in the division. But are there signs of hope? Newcastle had 22 shots (5 on target) in their 1-2 defeat against Leeds last time out, their most in a Premier League game this season. Indeed, it was more than the Magpies had managed in their previous three league games combined (18, also 5 on target).

More of the same, please? Last season’s Premier League meeting between Everton and Newcastle at Goodison Park saw Florian Lejeune score two goals in the 90th minute to earn the Magpies a 2-2 draw, the first instance of a player scoring twice in the last minute of an away top-flight match since April 2001 – Gustavo Poyet for Chelsea vs Derby County.

Speaking to BT Sport ahead of today's game, and it is clear what he REALLY thinks of journalists: "For me, I’ve got no problem with criticism,” said Bruce, who only took questions from three written journalists yesterday. “It’s the constant criticism of the club, and when it comes to ridicule, then I think there should be a little bit more respect. We accept criticism. We’re getting beat. It’s the Premier League. I give up my time, and I give them respect to speak to them. Yes, they can be pretty damning. We all accept that, but have a little bit of respect.”

HEAD TO HEAD: Everton have lost one of their last 16 home Premier League matches against Newcastle (W10 D5), a 1-0 defeat in September 2010. Newcastle haven’t recorded a Premier League double over Everton since the 2001-02 season under Bobby Robson, winning 3-1 away and 6-2 at home that season.

PICKFORD STARTS, SAINT-MAXIMIN ON BENCH AGAIN: Carlo Ancelotti had speculated that he may rotate his goalkeepers with the fixtures piling up, but Jordan Pickford remains in goal. Ancelotti has made four changes, however, with Mason Holgate, Ben Godfrey, Andre Gomes and Ben Davies all dropping to the bench, with Seamus Coleman, Gyfi Sigurdsson, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Alex Iwobi coming in. Allan Saint-Maximin is still not fit enough to start for Newcastle so remains on the bench, but Javier Manquillo does come in for Jacob Murphy as the one change from the side who lost to Leeds last time out.
