What a story! Brilliant ball in from Rashford, and Cavani is there to head home and send the United bench into raptures. EL Matador has still got it, and some.

90+2'

GGGGGGGOOOOOOAAAALLLLLl!!!!! Southampton 2-3 Man Utd. El Matadoooooooooooooor with what is surely the winner here for United!

90+2'

Fernandes looks for an audacious chip from a long, long way out, but McCarthy easily gets back.

90'

Late change here for Saints here, with Ibrahima Diallo on for Armstrong. Five added minutes here.

89'

Half-hearted appeals for handball from United, but nothing is given.

87'

United come again. Several corners in a row now for United.

85'

Rashford tries to feed Fred, but gets too much on it. Rashford should really have had a go himself.

-

Quite the impact.

83'

Saints now seeing some of the ball now. They are still in this.

81'

United pressing but the chances are not coming as they were earlier in the game.

79'

CLOSE! Adams brings the ball down, swivels, but drags his shot just wide.

-

Indeed.

77'

United appear to be in the driving seat, but at the back they still look vulnerable.

-

It is not over yet...

75'

He has been brilliant in these past few weeks, and he pops up with a crucial equaliser. Fernandes struck the ball towards goal, it took a deflection, and El Matador was alert to it, glancing a header home.

74'

GGGGGGGGOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLL!!!! Southampton 2-2 Man Utd. Brilliant from Cavani as he makes it 2-2!

72'

I mean....

70'

WIDE! Great effort from Cavani, as he gets up so well to meet Wan-Bissaka's cross, but it flies agonisingly wide.

68'

United need some calm here. The chances will come. They need to make sure they don't concede again.

66'

Great block from Wan-Bissaka to cut out Ryan Bertrand's cross. Does feel like next goal wins here.

64'

Rashford collects the ball in the middle, but his pass is all wrong.

62'

Saints pressing fro an immediate response here. United still look a little shaky at the back.

-

Cometh the hour.

-

Game on!

60'

Huge moment in this game. That is now five goals in consecutive games for Fernandes - equalling a club record - as he collects a cross from Cavani, takes a touch, swivels and fires home.

GGGGGOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!!!! Southampton 2-1 Man Utd. Lifeline for United, as Fernandes steers the ball home.

57'

Delay in play as Bednarek receives treatment for a knock picked up in blocking from Cavani,

55'

OVER! Another great chance for United. Fernandes whips a cross into the middle, Van de Beek feeds it back across for Cavani, whose effort is deflected just over. United have to make these chances count!

53'

SAVE! Rashford races clear, has Cavani as an option, but Rashford goes for goal, and McCarthy blocks.

51'

Ward-Prowse whips another free-kick into the middle, but Telles heads clear.

49'

All Saints early in this second half.

  • End of 1st Half
45+2'

HT: Southampton 2-0 Man Utd. A strange one, as United have created plenty, but somehow find themselves two goals down at the interval. All about two set piece moments of magic from Ward-Prowse.

45'

Two minutes of added time at the end of the half.

44'

United piling forward at the end of the half. A goal now...

42'

Great game this. Saints are pressing for more, with United looking shaky.

40'

Next goal is crucial here. United have posed a real threat in attack, and could be galvanised by a goal, whereas conceding another would surely kill them off.

-

He is JWP's idol...

38'

De Gea is getting some treatment now. He seemed to injure his knee is trying to save that free-kick from Ward-Prowse.

-

An expert.

36'

SAVE! De Gea keeps United in it as he keeps out a strike from Moussa Djenepo.

34'

He spends so much time on the training ground practicing those, and it really does make perfect, as Ward-Prowse curls a quite brilliant free-kick just inside the post. De Gea just cannot get there.

  • James Ward-Prowse

GGGGGGGOOOOOOAAALLLLLL!!!! Southampton 2-0 Man Utd. My word, what a strike from Ward-Prowse. United look stunned!

32'

Free-kick to Saints right on the edge of the penalty area. Ward-Prowse territory.

30'

DOUBLE SAVE! Miraculous from McCarthy! Awful pass from the goalkeeper is cut out by Greenwood, he hammers the ball for goal, McCarthy saves, Fernandes is on hand to tuck home the rebound, only for McCarthy to spring across to deny Fernandes too. Incredible.

28'

POST! What a big moment that could be. Kyle Walker-Peters drills for the bottom corner, it takes a deflection, seems to be heading in, but it flicks the post and goes behind for a corner.

-

Makes all the difference.

26'

No need to panic for United here. They have a great record of coming back against Saints, and they are playing well.

24'

All about the delivery from Ward-Prowse from the corner. De Gea does not know whether to come or stay, and Bednarek pounces to head his first of the season at the near post.

23'

GGGGGOOOOOAAALLLLL!!!! Southampton 1-0 Man Utd. Very much against the run of play, Jan Bednarek heads home to give Saints the lead!

22'

Better from Saints as several cross come into the United box and cause problems.

20'

Finally, 20 minutes in, and Saints are enjoying some possession.

-

The hosts are not afraid to leave their foot in...

Referee Moss brings the play back to book Ward-Prowse for a foul on Van de Beek in the build-up to the move that saw Fernandes strike the post.

16'

POST! Super effort from Fernandes, seconds after coming back on, as he beats McCarthy from distance, but sees his strike clip the post.

14'

Fernandes stays down after a heavy tackle from Oriol Romeu. Getting treatment on the touchline.

12'

Good start this from United. Very sharp and look a threat.

10'

Long ball from Matic up to Rashford, but this time Vestergaard gets it right this time.

-

I mean he is biased, but was that the same as Brighton's against Liverpool yesterday?

8'

VAR at the centre of things again. Marcus Rashford goes tumbling under challenge from James Ward-Prowse. Nothing is given by referee Jon Moss, and the VAR back in Stockley Park agrees.

6'

MISS! Greenwood really should score. Jannik Vestergaard is caught napping as Greenwood races onto Telles' through pass, he rounds Alex McCarthy, the angle is tight, and he can only find the side netting.

4'

Alex Telles gets forward down the left well, whips a cross into the middle, but it is headed clear.

2'

Saints doing all the pressing here early on.

13:49

United actually to like life on the road. They United have won their last seven Premier League away games – they’ve never won eight in a row on the road in the top-flight before. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are looking to win their first four away games to a league season for the third time in their history, also doing so in 1913-14 and 1985-86.

13:39

Southampton are winless in their last eight Premier League meetings with Man Utd (D5 L3) since a 1-0 win at Old Trafford in January 2016. However, four of their last five against the Red Devils have ended level. United haven’t lost any of their last nine Premier League away games against Southampton (W5 D4). Their only defeat at St Mary’s in the competition came back in August 2003 (0-1).

13:25

VAN DE BEEK AND GREENWOOD START: The big news is that with Paul Pogba still out of the squad, Donny van de Beek is handed his first Premier League start this afternoon, with Mason Greenwood also coming back into the starting XI. Anthony Martial is not in the squad, with Nemanja Matic also coming in. Looks like two up front for United. Saints striker Danny Ings is still nursing his knee injury picked up in Southampton’s win at Aston Villa in October, so Che Adams leads the line, while Nathan Redmond is recovering from a hamstring injury and cannot return to the Saints squad.
