There's some indecision from Nakamba, Bergwijn steals it, holds off McGinn and smashes it home from the top of the boxwith a venomous shot that left Martinez with absolutely no chance.

Tanganga sprints out of defence to create the overlap on the right, but he's tracked all the way by El Ghazi who nips in and steals from Kane's pass.

Alli has the chance to get a shot away from the edge of the penalty area but instead opts to pass to Son and the attack is collapsed by the Villa defence.

Mings commits a foul on Tangana to give Spurs a free-kick on the right. Son's delivery is poor and fails to beat the first man Nakamba.

I watched the play-off semi finals last night and the atmosphere was great in both stadiums. We’ve all felt it. We made five new signings in the summer and their family and friends have never seen them play at Villa Park. For the players as well, it’s something they’ve been missing to play in front of their loved ones.”

It has been a difficult season for Spurs. The sacking of Jose Mourinho, the club's involvement in the European Super Club plans and those growing rumours about Harry Kane's future. But Ryan Mason believes the supporters will be firmly behind the team tonight. "Come and enjoy the match, come and support the team like they always do,” he said. "I know they will. I will be honest, the lucky ones that are coming into the stadium, I know they will be behind the team. That is an absolute fact. I am not worried, I feel confident they are going to help the team. The atmosphere will be amazing and we are looking forward to it.”

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has said the club "lost sight of some key priorities" in a message to fans. "We have not met our raised expectations on the pitch," said Levy. "We have been so focused on delivering the stadium and dealing with the impact of the pandemic that I feel we lost sight of some key priorities and what's truly in our DNA. We don't get everything right. It has never been because we don't care about or respect our fans - nothing could be further from the truth."

The big news for Villa is that Jack Grealish returns to the starting XI as Jacob Ramsey drops to the bench. In total, Dean Smith makes three changes from the side that lost 3-2 to Crystal Palace, with Ahmed Elmohamady and Douglas Luiz replaced by Marvelous Nakamba and Tyrone Mings.
