Premier League / Matchday 4
Stamford Bridge / 11.09.2021
A landmark win for the Blues.
End of 2nd Half
Full-time: Chelsea run out deserved winners thanks to Romelu Lukaku's excellent double. The victory moves Thomas Tuchel's side up to second in the early Premier League table.
GOAL! Chelsea 3-0 Aston Villa (Romelu Lukaku): The Belgian is at the double to give Chelsea a rather flattering victory. Azpilicueta races down the right on the counter-attack and pulls it back to Lukaku, who takes a touch and fires it into the roof of the net.
Apologies for the lack of commentary - a slight technical error.
Mendy won't be beaten like that. Watkins, for what feels like the umpteenth time today, gets a shot away, this time from distance, but it's simple for the Chelsea goalkeeper.
Aston Villa sub: Luiz makes way for Marvelous Nakamba for the last 10 minutes or so.
Villa are still pushing for a way back as they force a corner, but Mendy gathers the ball on the second attempt.
Wide! Alonso nearly gets on the scoresheet but drags his shot wide. That would have killed it!
Traore creates the space to get a shot away and wins Villa a corner. Konsa wriggles free from his marker to meet McGinn's resultant delivery but directs his header straight at Mendy.
Chelsea fans are in buoyant form as Hudson-Odoi provides the trickery, but if Aston Villa get on the scoresheet soon it could make for a very interesting finish.
Aston Villa sub: A frustrating evening for Ings comes to an end as he's replaced by Traore.
Now that he's got the feel for it, Kovacic is on the search for his second as he curls an effort wide from the edge of the penalty area.
Chelsea sub: Cesar Azplicueta comes on for Havertz as Chelsea make a change to their system.
The presence of Jorginho has helped Chelsea in the second half. It is hard to see how Saul gets his place back in the side after today.
Bailey shows some quick feet and trickery to draw the foul from Alonso, who goes into the book for his troubles.
A rare foray forward for Villa in the second half as Watkins' shot is deflected behind for a corner.
Leon Bailey replaces Ramsey as Dean Smith desperately tries to turn the tide.
It's all Chelsea now. Alonso races down the left but his cross is scrambled behind for a corner by Mings. Nothing comes of the corner, but the Blues are in total control at the moment.
That second goal has changed things and Chelsea are coasting now, as Havertz creates an opening but drags his shot wide.
