Thiago Alcantara: "It's a derby, it's always special. We have to have in our mind it's another Premier League game that we have to give our all. It's our mindset.For us, it's just a game that we have to play now away."

Abdoulaye Doucoure: “We know the fans are demanding more, that is normal, you play for Everton and have to get results. At the moment that is not the case. Every player has to show more character and aggression and achieve results to make the fans happy.”

Rafael Benitez: “For us, the derby is a massive game because we can get three points and start building on that. Hopefully we can go back to the way we were at the beginning of the season, with the team working hard, playing well and winning games.”

More from Klopp: "We all know there are some special things around derbies, these kind of things. But first and foremost, it's a football game as well and that's exactly how we want to approach it and that's it pretty much. We know what our supporters want. I think we are not suspicious of not understanding the supporters' soul and we try to fulfil their dreams and we try to fulfil their wishes, and derby games are more in the focus, if you want. But from our point of view, it's a football game which we have to approach like a normal football game."

Speaking of van Dijk, it wasn't a surprise to see Klopp asked about the Holland international in his pre-match press conference and the Reds boss was keen to hail his impact since recovering from that Goodison Park injury.

It's pretty simple from Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool's perspective. He makes just one change from the 4-0 rout of Southampton. That sees Joel Matip replace Ibrahima Konate alongside Virgil van Dijk, with the big Dutchman returning to the scene of his season-ending injury last term.

Everton make two changes from the disappointing defeat to Brentford at the weekend for what is Rafael Benitez's first Merseyside derby as Blues boss.
