Hello and welcome to Eurosport’s LIVE coverage of Liverpool versus Aston Villa in the Premier League. No matter who is on the pitch, the one man everyone will want to see back at Anfield is Steven Gerrard. The new Aston Villa manager will take his place in the opposing dugout for the first time in a competitive match against the side where he spent 17 years and won nine trophies. The top of the league is looking cosy for Christmas. With the league leaders, Manchester City looking likely to eke out some breathing room in the early kick-off, Liverpool know that any slip-ups could be costly. Very few of the Anfield crowd won’t be chanting Gerrard’s name, but even fewer will expect him to walk away with three points. Teams coming at you shortly.

    End of 2nd Half
    90'+4
That's it! Villa pushed at the end but Liverpool hang on. They should have been further ahead but in the end Villa made them fight for every inch. Gerrard will be gutted with the result but his team played so well.
    90'+3
That should have been it! Jota puts it over from 12 yards. They are making the Kop sweat.
    90'+1
Villa are pushing but they have left so much space behind them. Liverpool happy to slow things down and keep possession. 90 seconds to go.
    90'
Four minutes to play. Anfield is nervous.
    86'
Allison wobbles again! He charges from his box and slams his clearance straight into the chasing Villa player. The deflection is kind.
    83'
Change for Liverpool as they look to steady the ship. Milner's safe hands are on.
    81'
Close! Liverpool break with three after great work by Aston Villa down the other end. Why didn't Salah shoot?!
    78'
Villa push forward but run into a red wall. Cash's pullback in cleared. A spell of possession that you feel needs to amount to something if they hope to get anything from the game.
    77'
Konsa almost sells his goalkeeper short with a back pass that was far too casual. Jota almost takes advantage but Martinez is in the way, again.
    74'
Danny Ings is on at Anfield. He's welcomed warmly. He could have been a much bigger player for Liverpool but for a few too many injuries.

The goal has given teeth to Salah now. His shot is deflected just over. He wants a second badly.

Villa change. They need a goal. Buendia on.

Scored! Salah having won the spot kick, slots home to the bottom corner. It is more than deserved. Martinez went the right way but that was the near-perfect pen.

Penalty! Mings, who has been immaculate, misjudged the blur of Salah's heels and clips him. VAR to check, however...
    61'
A now rare foray for Villa. Some neat play but McGinn is squeezed off the ball. They shuttle back into position.
    59'
Salah places one just over the top corner from the edge of the box. Alexander-Arnold was screaming for that on the right hand side.

Martinez's goal is being peppered as the Liverpool players queue up to shoot. Salah orchestrates from the middle, nibbling every time Villa look like clearing. It's a siege.
    54'
As Martinez gets his breath back he earns the ire of the ref for taking too long over his goal kicks. The Kop make their displeasure known.
