After a relatively bright start, the wheels have come off Villa recently. "We’re in a high-performing elite sport," commented Smith on his side's form. "And within those games there have been marginal moments which transpired. We’ve made some small mistakes in games that have cost us, we were missing five players for West Ham game. We’re not far from turning it around and we’re in determined mood."

Southampton are the form team coming into this one having gone three league matches unbeaten and taking Chelsea to a penalty shootout in the Carabao Cup. "We are in good shape, I think,! said Hasenhuttl. "We should keep on going and keep on taking points. The international break is not coming at the perfect time but we take it. We know that we have some important weeks coming now. We had some strong opponents and some not-so-strong opponents lately. We need to keep on going and we know this, the reaction from the team has been a good one and these two wins have been important."
