After a relatively bright start, the wheels have come off Villa recently. "We’re in a high-performing elite sport," commented Smith on his side's form. Dean Smith makes three changes as he tries to stop the rot after four straight defeats. Captain Tyrone Mings is restored to the defence, as is Axel Tuazebe, with Kortney Hause dropping to the bench. Anwar el Ghazi is also back in, as Jacob Ramsey and the suspended Ezri Konza make way.

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl makes just one change to the side that beat Watford 1-0 last Saturday, with Stuart Armstrong - making his first start of the season - replacing Nathan Redmond, who drops out of the squad altogether. Adam Armstrong continues up front with Che Adams.
