Southampton again looking exposed following a United free kick. Shaw loops in a teasing ball which finds the feet of Pogba. Pogba's strike is fired goal ward, but Salisu blocks.

SO CLOSE! McCarthy fails to collect the sweeping ball and a deflection off martial rattles the bar. Linelof heads in another attempt which is scrambled off the line. Lucky escape for Southampton.

Early pressure from Southampton has earned them a corner.

Early chance for Ward-Prowse. Southampton claim a free kick in the opening minute and Prowse's strike test De Gea, who manages to palm the low struck ball past the post.

Manchester United have recovered 35 points from losing positions in Premier League games against Southampton, more than any side has against another in the competition’s history.

Manchester United have started the 21/22 campaign with a sense of excitement and Bruno Fernandes' hattrick last weekend was a fine example that Ole’s side mean business. Having only been beaten once in the last 13 league meetings at St Mary’s, United will be feeling confident that their squad can edge a win on the south coast this afternoon.

The summer transfer window has seen Southampton wave goodbye to club goal scorer Danny Ings, as well as the departure of new-found Leicester signings Vestergaard and Bertrand. The Saints have brought some replacements in to bolster the squad, and Adam Armstrong’s debut goal against Everton silenced those still mourning Ings’ transfer. Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side will have to be well organised and firm at the back if they are to keep United at bay today.
