Jurgen Klopp gave a very honest assessment of his current situation as manager of Liverpool after a disappointing 2022-23 campaign so far. He said that he is currently only in his job because of what he has achieved at the club in the past. Liverpool are currently outside of the European places in the Premier League table and were knocked out by Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16.

Klopp says Liverpool were 'lucky' not to concede more at Etihad

Jurgen Klopp says he is still Liverpool manager "because of the past" rather than their current form ahead of their Premier League clash with managerless Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
On Sunday two Premier League managers were sacked as Brendan Rodgers departed Leicester and Graham Potter left Chelsea .
When Klopp was asked by reporters for his reaction to the duo's departures, the German said: "I think the elephant in the room is why I am still sitting here in this crazy world, last man standing."
Klopp, who has won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League with Liverpool but are out of all cup competitions this season and sit eighth in the Premier League table, believes he is still in his job because of past achievements.
"I am aware of the fact I am sitting here because of the past," he said.
"Not because of what we did this season. If it was my first season it would be slightly different, so that’s it.
"Yes we have smart owners they know about the situation but to be 100% you had better ask them yourselves why that is the case.
"Am I afraid [of the sack]? No, but I don’t think that Graham was afraid but there is no need for being afraid. I am here to deliver.
"I am not here as a talisman or whatever or for murals on a house wall. I am here to deliver, I know that 100%. I know as well I am still here for what happened in the last few years."
Klopp says he must address Liverpool's current dip in form having lost their last three matches.
"I don’t like the fact and pretty much I have to rely on that," he said. "Is it right or not? We will see that in the future but I am fully in, there is no doubt about it but we have to sort it.
"We cannot continue playing like we do from time to time. Not always thank god but from time to time. That is now allowed.
"I am really disappointed about us that we do these kinds of things but it happened now we have to find a way out. That is what we are constantly working on."
