Manchester City returned to the summit of the Premier League table for the first time since November after two Erling Haaland strikes settled a tight game with Everton.

Haaland had barely been in the game, until a booming hit in the 70th minute sent a wave of relief around the Etihad. A loose ball from a corner fell to him seven yards out, and he crashed his shot through Jordan Pickford to give City the lead.

With five minutes to go Haaland settled the match with a barnstorming goal, barrelling through Jarrad Branthwaite before tucking a shot low into the bottom corner.

The first half of the match was a near non-event, as both sides failed to register a shot on target. James Tarkowski, impressive throughout, made a couple of vital blocks when City were in dangerous positions.

City are back on top of the table for the first time since November, while Everton remain in the relegation zone.

With the last kick of the game De Bruyne, through on the right from a long ball, tries to loft it over Pickford and sits the ball on the roof of the net.

The final whistle goes, and City move ominously to the top of the table. It might only be for a few hours, but they've registered an important win here.

This possession now, mostly by City, is just filler stuff. It's been an odd game, settled by two moments of pure class.

Grealish gets away from Garner, who brings him down, and that's a yellow card.

Here's that storming goal by Haaland.

Dobbin slides a cute ball through to Beto, who drills a low shot into the bottom corner. Once again though, he's several yards offside.

McNeil and Gueye come off, Dobbin and Chermiti come on.

Branthwaite won't want to see that again, Haaland absolutely rag-dolled him.

City make a change, Grealish for Doku.

It's him again! De Bruyne leads a break for City after an Everton move falls aprt, and slides a pass through to Haaland. One on one with Branthwaite in the Everton half, Haaland simply barrels through Branthwaite and leaves him on the floor, before tucking a low shot past Pickford. Game done, surely.

Onana breaks forward and slides Beto clean through, but he'd gone way too early. After Beto's attempted curler to the farcorner goes wide, up goes the flag.

He tries to take Coleman down the left, but slips as he makes it to the byline and the ball runs behind.

For City, Bernardo Silva replaces Alvarez.

Everton switch it up to. Calvert-Lewin and Young depart, and Beto and Onana enter the fray.

They look at touch despondnet here as City knock it around. There's about 20 left though I'd say, so surely they might as well change things and have a shy at an equaliser.

Haaland has barely been in this, yet he's just emphatically given his team the lead. It was a great hit, which Pickford got a hand to but couldn't keep out.

From nothing, City lead! After the second of two corners from the right, Dias wins a header and plants it downwards. The ball ricochets about and breaks to Haaland to the left, who hoses the bouncing ball at goal and through Pickford for the lead!

Foden spins and feeds Walker into space on the right. His low cross is put behind by Garner.

Everton want a free kick as Stones dumps McNeil over. They don't get one, and City work it quickly to Rodri who hoiks a long shot high and wide from distance.
