FULL TIME
Newcastle United romped to victory over a hapless Crystal Palace to move up to fifth in the Premier League.
The home side dominated from the first whistle and took the lead when Jacob Murphy lobbed home in the fourth minute - a goal given after the linesman's initial flag for offside on Kieran Trippier was shown to be mistaken.
The Eagles looked set to be very fortunate to go into half time level after Anthony Gordon had missed an open goal on the half-hour mark but Newcastle notched twice before the break to give them a lead which did not flatter them at all.
First, Gordon made amends by volleying home Murphy's fine cross and then, almost straight from the kick-off, Marc Guehi mis-controlled a long ball which Sean Longstaff latched onto and then slid home into the net.
The fourth came on the break when Murphy curled a wonderful ball behind the Palace defence which Callum Wilson calmly took under his control and passed into the net.
