Newcastle United versus West Ham United LIVE: crucial game in race for European places

Newcastle United kept their hopes of European football next season alive with a sensational victory over West Ham United in today’s lunchtime kick-off.

With 13 minutes of normal time left Newcastle were 3-1 behind but produced a stunning comeback to take all three points. Alexander Isak converted a penalty to halve the deficit, before sliding a perfect through ball to Harvey Barnes for the equaliser.

Newcastle were depleted by injuries going into the game, and lost Jamaal Lascelles, Tino Livramento and Miguel Almiron during it. Their improbable comeback was sealed in the final minute of normal time when Barnes drilled in the winner from 20 yards.

Isak had given Newcastle an early lead from the penalty spot, only for it to be cancelled out by a smart finish from Michail Antonio for West Ham. Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen then scored either side of half-time to give the visitors a lead that looked unassailable.

The victory moves Newcastle up to eighth in the table, just one point behind West Ham.

Paqueta whips a ball in to the back post, which Kudus tries twice to square into the middle but Newcastle, in a frenzy, clear the ball. And that's all folks, Newcastle have won a sensational game!

Kudus whips a superb cross to the back post. Dubravka flaps at the ball and misses it, but Soucek can't turn it in with his chest and the ball goes into the side-netting.

Isak finds Guimaraes, who races through into the area but kicks it too far ahead and Fabianski gathers.

Gordon, already booked, kicks the ball away needlessly and gets a second yellow. This game is all over the place!

What spirit from Newcastle, and Gordon in particular. They looked done at 3-1, now they're looking like taking three points.

Oh my days, they're ahead! Gordon wins a ball he was second favourite for again, and spins away from Zouma to find Barnes on the edge of the area. Barnes lets the ball come across him to beat Phillips, before planting a fierce drive into the far corner. St James' Park erupts!

Gordon is booked for pulling down the breaking Kudus. Much to the amusement of the home faithful, Moyes is also booked for exchanging opinions with the fourth official.

Isak gets another chance immediately from a cross cut back from the byline. He tries the old Cruyff flickwith his left foot, but kicks the ball onto his standing leg and it goes out for a goal kick.

Isak does it again! He skips up to the ball and sends Fabianski the wrong way while placing the ball into the bottom left again. Game on!

Gordon muscles his way into a crossing position on the right, and whips a low ball to the back post. Barnes runs onto it and thumps a shot back across Fabianski, who not only saves the ball but holds it. That was shifting at some speed.

Schar and Gordon are also struggling out there, and Newcastle have used all of their subs allocation. This could be a long old twenty and change for their players out there.
