Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson will not attend his side’s Premier League match against Aston Villa after falling unwell on Saturday.
The 76-year-old was due to be in the dugout at Villa Park for the 3pm kick-off but will now not be at the game.
Hodgson’s assistant Paddy McCarthy will take over managerial duties for the match and ill be assisted by Ray Lewington.
On Saturday afternoon Palace released a statement that read: “Unfortunately Roy Hodgson was taken unwell earlier today and is not at Villa Park.
“Roy is in contact with Paddy McCarthy, who will take the team today assisted by Ray Lewington.
“Roy sent his best wishes to the team ahead of the match.
“We send our very best wishes to Roy.”
Hodgson had intended to retire from football at the end of the 2021-22 season but returned to Palace on a temporary basis in March of this year after the departure of Patrick Vieira.
The former England boss helped guide his boyhood team to Premier League safety, winning five of his 10 games in charge.
Hodgson signed a one-year contract with the club earlier this summer to stay on in a permanent capacity.
Palace have taken seven points from their opening four Premier League matches this season, beating Crystal Palace and Wolves, drawing with Brentford and narrowly losing to Arsenal.
