England midfielder Scott Parker has agreed to join Newcastle United from champions Chelsea, Newcastle said on their website on Wednesday. The 24-year-old, who had also been linked with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur, underwent a medical after agreeing per

"I'm delighted to be joining Newcastle," Parker told the website. "As soon as Chelsea made it clear they were prepared to let me leave, I was keen on this move.
"I have played here a few times, and I know how big the club is. I was very impressed by the manager (Graeme Souness), he was a major factor behind my decision to come here."
Parker joined Chelsea for 10 million pounds ($18.1 million) from Charlton Athletic in January 2004 but failed to win a regular first-team place at Stamford Bridge.
The Londoner, who has won two England caps, made only sporadic appearances last season before sustaining a broken bone in his foot in December which ruled him out of the rest of the campaign.
