Rangers' goalkeeper Allan McGregor is looking forward to a battle with new recruit Roy Carroll for a place between the sticks at Ibrox.
The ex-Manchester United shot-stopper arrived from West Ham earlier this month after failing to hold down a place in the Hammers' first team following the arrival of Robert Green.
Carroll's move north of the border surely comes in search of first-team football but McGregor is determined to keep the Northern Ireland international on the bench.
"Now I've got the Jersey I'm keen to hold on to it," McGregor told the Sun.
Rangers have also signed keeper Graeme Smith from Kilmarnock and new boss Walter Smith clearly feels the Glasgow team must start at the back it they're to mount a genuine challenge for the SPL title next season.
"Roy has been at United so that says it all. Graeme is a good lad too," added McGregor.
"But this is a job I want to keep."
