The 32-year-old suffers from a long-standing knee complaint and will find a new club in June "out of respect" for the Glasgow club.
"After seeing the specialist we decided that it would be best for him and Rangers that he moves on," Rank Stojic told BBC Scotland.
"The doctor advised him that if he continues to train and play with the intensity that he does at Rangers then he could damage his knee long term.
"Dado has too much respect for Rangers not to give them one hundred percent."
Stojic added: "Dado has very much enjoyed his time in Glasgow and is desperately disappointed that he is having to move on but he feels it is the best for both parties."
Despite his injury problems, retirement from the game is out of the question for the former Monaco ace, and he has been linked to a move to America, where he could link up with David Beckham at LA Galaxy.
"He will play on for sure," Stojic continued. "We could make a decision on where he plays in the next 10 days or two weeks. The United States or the Far East are options he will consider."
