Poor play from Balotelli who leads the Milan attack. The home side have the numerical advantage and have a chance to wrap up the tie, but the forward is selfish and tries to go it alone, but he is tackled on the edge of the box with options on either side.

Milan make their final change of the evening as Ignacio Abate replaces Kevin Constant.

Alvarez is instantly in the thick of the action as he gathers the ball 30 yards from goal and drives forward with real intent. He has options left and right but opts to shoot from distance, sending his effort way wide of the goal.

Inter, searching for a vital equaliser against their most fierce rivals, make an attack-minded double change with Jonathan and Icardi making way for Ricardo Alvarez and Diego Milito.

Milan make their second change of the match with Giampaolo Pazzini replacing Kaka.

DISALLOWED!! Balotelli cuts in from the left, shimmying his way past a number of challenges before sending a fierce shot on goal. It takes a deflecion off the boot of Samuel and then another one off Montolivo before deceiving Handanovic and nestling in the far corner. The flag is up, however, with Montolivo in an offside position.

Milan clear an Inter corner and look to break in numbers, though Samuel has other ideas - bringing down Montolivo. He rightfully receives a yellow card for his troubles.

Clarence Seedorf makes his first change of the evening. Andrea Poli is the man to make way, with Sulley Muntari introduced.

Samuel makes a vital block on the edge of his area with Kaka looking to send a volley goalwards following Ranocchia's poor clearance. The effort is struck well, but Samuel's challenge is an excellent one.

Inter make the first change of the match, as Fredy Guarin replaces Esteban Cambiasso.

Of all the possible ways Milan could score, a Nigel de Jong header would have been low down on the list. The Dutch midfielder was afforded a completely free header from six yards, with Cambiasso losing his man.

GOAL!!!! Milan open the scoring, and it comes from Nigel De Jong, who rises highest just inside the six-yard box to nod the ball past a helpless Handanovic. De Jong's former Manchester City teammate Balotelli provided the assist from the right.

Taarabt tricks his way past Cambiasso on the edge of the Inter penalty area and then skips past Kovacic before being brought down 20 yards from goal. This is a real promising position for Milan.

It's been a very poor game so far. Milan showed a bit of urgency in the final few moments of the opening half, but that's gone now and both sides look a little nervy. This match could do with a couple of substitutions and an injection of pace.

Kaka's outswinging corner from the right finds the heads of Mexes, who pulls away from Cambiasso, but the effort fizzes inches wide of the right-hand post. Milan have had the best two chances of match so far.

Inter win another corner, but Palacio's set-piece is underhit and fails to clear Konstant at Constant at the near post. Really poor play from the Inter man.

Hernanes gets caught with the ball deep in his own half, over by the left touchline. He is under serious pressure from Montolivo and is dispossessed. The referee deems it a foul, however, despit their being minimal contact, and Montolivo is rightfully furious.
