Later, much later, VAR intervenes to inspect an alleged foul by Matuidi on Zaniolo when he lost the ball.

Nice from Dzeko, who finds Shick who lays back for Zaniolo. But again, a powerful drive is blocked almost immediately but the form of Chiellini. What a defender he is.

Douglas Costa, then. I've heard it said that Man United are keen on buying him next month and it's true that they don't have a right-winger (especially now Mourinho has left!) But I'm not sure why they'd want someone deemed not good enough for Bayern or Juve - similar to Spurs with Moura, who they bought mainly because he was cheap and available.

Douglas Costa races over halfway and there's space in behind, but he shows too much of the ball to Manolas, who whisks it away and moves upfield.

Sandro charges down the left so Kluivert barges him in the backl; he's lucky not to be booked for that one. Costa will swing the free-kick over ... and he picks out Shick, who cushions away a header.

Shick wraps an arm around Chiellini's neck, hauls him down, and is booked.

A futher change apiece: Roma introduce Dzeko for Nzonzi, and Juve replace Dybala with Douglas Costa.

More possession for Roma - Juventus are sitting back now, which gives them a chance. Any defence that invites pressure invites the opposition to force an error out of them - it hopw Juve contrived to lose to Manchester United - and while Roma don't have as many quality attackers, they have something.
