GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 Newcastle (Batshuayi, 44)
Newcastle give possession away cheaply in the centre of the pitch, the ball is worked to Hazard whose beautifully-weighted pass finds Batshuayi, he shoots, it takes a wicked deflection off Lascelles, loops over the head of Darlow and into the back of the net.

CHANCE FOR NEWCASTLE!
Chelsea almost shoot themselves in the foot but again Newcastle can't capitalise on a mistake!
The hosts try to play the ball out from the back but Drinkwater is caught in possession and Manquillo nips in, pokes the ball through to Shelvey but his shot is poor and straight at Caballero.

SO CLOSE!
Rudiger sells Shelvey a dummy, cuts inside onto his left foot and curls a shot from 15 yards which goes only inches wide!

Hazard turns away from his marker before trying to find Batshuayi with a clever reverse pass but it's cut out by Mbemba who is forced to concede a corner.

Newcastle's No 9 has struggled to get to grips with the game, but this time it's positive play from Gayle as he skips past Rudiger before shooting on the edge of the box but Caballero gets down well to make the save.

Almost an instant response from Newcastle, as Haidara, who has enjoyed a fine first-half, gets down the left and crosses for Gayle but the forward can't quite make the connection.

GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle (Batshuayi, 31)
Despite a spluttering start, the Blues take the lead! It all stems from an inch-perfect pass from Pedro to release Hazard on the right side of the box, he knocks it back for Alonso and the ball is squared for Batshuayi who taps the ball into a gaping net.

It's all fairly even at Stamford Bridge with almost half-an-hour on the clock. Conte won't be pleased with the tempo his side are playing at; there is no real rhythm or flow in their play.

Alonso scuffs his shot and it's blocked by the feet of a Newcastle defender. The Chelsea wing-back was caught on the follow-through but it was never a foul.

The corner comes to little but Benitez will certainly be impressed with the start his side have made.

GOOD EFFORT!
Shelvey is unmarked at the near post to meet Haidara's cross, he tries a first time shot but Cabellero is alert to push it behind for a corner.
22'
Newcastle only have four wins in their last 20 games, but they have looked extremely comfortable thus far. They're sitting deep, frustrating Chelsea and hoping to catch the hosts on the break.

Really sloppy from Zappacosta in derence as he gifts the ball straight to Ritchie! He feeds Gayle inside the box but instead of shooting the forward tries to find a team mate and Chelsea win possession back.

Zappacosta seems to be moving fine now as he wins a corner for Chelsea.
Hazard's delivery falls to Cahill, but he fails to connect with a shot and Newcastle scramble clear.

It's Hazard who takes... but he smashes his shot straight into the wall and that's a let off for Newcastle.

And now Mbemba goes into the book for a late foul on Hazard - right on the edge of the box.

Ritchie sends in a deep, looping cross searching for Gayle but Caballero is off his line confidently to punch clear.
