City should be ahead. De Bruyne finds Silva, who lays it back for Mahrez with plenty of time and space, but the Algerian blazes over from the edge of the area.

Newcastle just about deal with a left-wing corner. It falls for Mahrez, who drops a shoulder before seeing a dangerous, low curler brilliantly blocked. City build again, but let the hosts off the hook when Mendy sizzles a wild effort from a narrow angle well wide.

It's all City early doors. Newcastle are struggling to get out of their own half.

Head-to-head: The teams have faced each other in the FA Cup eight times. Newcastle have come out on top in six of those ties. The last two FA Cup meetings, in 1995 and 2002, produced home wins for the Magpies. City's only FA Cup victory at St James' Park came in a 3-1 success in the fourth round in 1977.

Laporte is caught in the cheek by a flailing arm from Carroll as they both leap into an early aerial challenge. The City man is down and needs some treatment. Looks like he'll be okay though.

City rampage out of the traps. The Citizens probe down both flanks and earn an early right-wing corner that Otamendi can only head high into the stand.

CITY SLICKERS: Manchester City have won their past nine FA Cup games, scoring 35 goals and conceding just four.

DID YOU KNOW? The Magpies haven't reached this point of the competition since 2006 when they were beaten 1-0 at Chelsea. They are bidding to reach the last four for the first time since 2005.

Miguel Almiron has been key to their run this season, netting four goals in his five FA Cup appearances. That's in stark contrast to the two he has notched in 40 Premier League outings for Newcastle.

Kevin de Bruyne: "It is always tough to play there. I think they have a good team, they have a good structure and they know what they are doing as a team and they have some good forward players.”

The last four is shaping up very nicely. The semis will take place across the weekend of 18-19 July, with the final on Saturday, August 1st at Wembley.

Steve Bruce: Even I wasn’t around in 1955 (last time the Magpies won a domestic trophy). How can a club of this stature have gone so long without winning anything? That’s got to be the priority now, whoever’s sitting in this chair. Maybe it’ll be this year, we’ve given ourselves a wonderful opportunity. We’ve got the attacking capability with Miguel Almirón and Allan Saint-Maximin in particular. Allan’s natural ability can cause any defender problems. You need resilience against City but, at the top end of the pitch, we do have players who can cause them problems, who can do some damage.”

Guardiola: "I am incredibly hungry for this part of the season and the next one and after that we will see. I am incredibly satisfied to be at this club. I don't want to think too much about things that are far away."
