Arsenal sub: A late change for the hosts, with Maitland-Niles coming on for Cedric, who has hurt himself after a collision with Gayle.
- GoalPierre-Emerick AubameyangArsenal
GOAL! Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang): That will do it! It's brilliant from Tierney, who busts a gut to get on the end of Xhaka's pass. He lifts in into the middle to find Aubameyang, who finishes with a simple tap-in for another FA Cup goal for the Arsenal skipper.
What must Andy Carroll be thinking? He has missed two gilt-edged opportunities to win this for Newcastle.
Do Newcastle have anything left? Arsenal have nine minutes to hold on to claim their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
- GoalEmile Smith RoweArsenal
GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle (Emile Smith Rowe): The deadlock is finally broken! It's Smith Rowe, who thought he was sent off in normal time before the decision was overturned, who grabs what could be the winner! Arsenal win the ball in midfield and the youngster controls the ball beautifully before slotting it past Dubravka.
- E.T 2nd Half
Kick-off! The second period of extra-time commences.

Newcastle sub: Dwight Gayle comes on for Carroll.
- OffNicolas PépéArsenal
- OnAlexandre LacazetteArsenal
Arsenal sub: Alexandre Lacazette replaces Pepe.
HT: Half-time in extra-time. We have 15 minutes to find a winner. If not, we proceed to penalties.
Really important block from Ritchie to deny Pepe's left-footed shot. There's still no way through for Arsenal!
Arsenal's final ball has been lacking all day, and Saka now fires a cross straight into the gloves of Dubravka.
No penalty! Aubameyang squeezes into the penalty area before going to ground after contact from Clark. You've seen them given but the referee waves away Arsenal's appeals.
Fantastic defending from Luiz, who gets ahead of Carroll to clear Murphy's cross and deny Carroll.
And from the resultant corner, Elneny drops his volley over the bar.
Great save! Beautiful technique from Xhaka as he shoots first-time from the edge of the penalty area, with Dubravka at full stretch to tip it over the bar.
Nice football from Arsenal as Tierney's cross finds Smith Rowe whose shot is deflected behind.
- E.T 1st Half
Kick-off! And we go again as extra-time commences!
- End of 2nd Half
FT: The teams can't be separated in normal time, so we will have another 30 minutes!
- Yellow cardEmile Smith RoweArsenal
Red card overturned! Smith Rowe is shown a straight red card for a tackle on Longstaff, but that looks really harsh. The referee is going to the screen to look at the incident... and correctly overturns his decision. It's just a yellow for the Arsenal man.
Carroll should win it for Newcastle! Leno parries Anderson's shot into the path of Carroll, whose shot is blocked by the Arsenal goalkeeper. And Leno then gathers himself quickly to throw himself onto the ball before Carroll can score with the rebound!
Yellow cards! A yellow card for Clark for dragging Aubameyang back and Hayden then goes into the book for kicking the ball away.
There will be THREE more minutes for a winner to be found in normal time.
Newcastle win another corner, but Carroll climbs over Elneny and the referee award Arsenal a free-kick in their own penalty area.
It's going to extra-time, isn't it? The second half has been much better and yet neither side has really looked like scoring. Except for Carroll who missed an absolute sitter.
No. It's a poor corner and Hendrick can only send it behind with a back-heel at the near post.
Carroll tries a shot from the edge of the penalty area, it deflects off Mari and Newcastle have a corner. Can the visitors get themselves in front?
Tierney goes past Yedlin like he isn't there before delivering a perfect cross for Aubameyang. But the Arsenal forward gets his header all wrong and can't test Dubravka.
- OffJoelintonNewcastle United
- OnElliot AndersonNewcastle United
Double Newcastle sub: 18-year-old Elliot Anderson - coming on for his debut - and DeAndre Yedlincome on for Almiron and Joelinton
Newcastle continue to prove a hard nut to crack. Smith Rowe drives to the byline but his cross is blocked and Dubravka denies Arsenal a corner.
Over! A good strike from Saka from the top of the box, but it's always rising and he can't keep it down.
An outrageous effort from Aubameyang as he shoots well over with the outside of his boot.
A comfortable save for Dubravka as Arsenal's frustration continues. Tierney delivers another decent ball but Aubameyang's header loops up and makes for an easy catch for the Newcastle goalkeeper.
Shot! Positive play from Pepe, who rides a couple of challenges as he cuts in from the flank before curling a shot wide from 20 yards. He could have played Aubameyang in. Shooting was the wrong ption.
Newcastle have been impressive in the second half, showing much more intent and a will to play higher up the pitch. Twenty to go here.
- OffEmil KrafthNewcastle United
- OnJacob MurphyNewcastle United
Newcastle sub: A positive move from Bruce as Jacob Murphy comes on for Krafth.
- OnBukayo SakaArsenal
Double Arsenal sub: Xhaka and Saka come on, with Willian and Willock making way.
Dubravka makes the save! Pepe stands up a cross to find Willock, whose header is kept out by a smart Dubravka save!
Neither manager will want extra-time and penalties, if needed. So it's hardly a surprise the game is becoming rather stretched.
Arsenal chance! Aubameyang runs in behind Newcastle's high-line, he's forced wide by Dubravka and can't direct his shot on target.
- OffReiss NelsonArsenal
- OnEmile Smith RoweArsenal
Arsenal sub: Smith Rowe replaces Nelson.
How does Carroll miss?! Newcastle win another free-kick in a wide area. Tierney's headed clearance is poor, Hendrick's shot falls to Carroll at the back post, and it looks a simple finish. However, the striker somehow pokes it wide from just yards out! The linesman's flag is raised, but the replay shows he's actually on, and it would have gone to VAR and counted had he scored. A real let off for Arsenal!
Carroll really connects with an instinctive shot from distance. It may take a slight deflection on its way through, but Leno is alert and makes the stop.
Pepe shoots well, well wide from 25 yards. His effort lacked conviction.
Dummett delivers a free-kick and his cross finds Carroll, but the Newcastle forward can't keep his header down. If the visitors are to score tonight one would imagine it will come from a set-piece.
Tierney blazes over from distance for Arsenal. Aside from Aubameyang's 25th minute shot, Dubravka has had almost nothing to do.
Losing Lascelles is a blow to Newcastle. Bruce's side had been so disciplined in defence with their skipper back, but now there's a change in the system, with Ritchie going to left-back and Dummett moving to the left side of a back three.
- 2nd Half
Kick-off! Arsenal get us underway in the second half, and there's a change in the Newcastle side, with Matt Ritchie replacing Lascelles.
- End of 1st Half
HT: The referee calls time on a drab first half. Arsenal have dominated possession but have barely laid a glove on the defensive-minded Newcastle.
Yellow card! Cedric goes into the book for pulling back Almiron. There will be just the one minute of added time to play.
It has been a long time since Newcastle have had any kind of possession. They're currently defending like it's the last 10 minutes of the match.
Newcastle continue to hold firm as we approach half-time. With Saka and Smith Rowe on the bench, Arsenal are lacking a creative spark.
Newcastle are dropping deeper and struggling to get out of their half, as they concede another corner. Arsenal work it short to Willian, who delivers the cross. Dubravka looks like he's going to punch it but Carroll beats his goalkeeper to it as he heads it clear.
Tierney is causing Newcastle problems down the left flank as he lifts another cross into the penalty area. Dummett is taking no chances as he heads behind at the expense of a corner.
Arsenal, it appears, are finally starting to click as they step up their efforts to make the breakthrough.
Important tackle! Pepe plays a lovely give-and-go with Aubameyang as he darts into the penalty area. Hayden races across, though, and makes an important challenge.
Newcastle have been boosted by the return of Laschelles, who is well positioned to head clear Tierney's cross.
Joelinton is perplexed as his cross is blocked by Pepe and the referee signals for an Arsenal goal-kick.
Arsenal chance! Great play by Tierney, who, with a drop of the shoulder and a turn of pace, leaves Longstaff in his wake. He cuts it back into the penalty area, but Nelson takes a heavy touch and Newcastle scramble it clear.
The best chance of the match so far by some distance...
- Yellow cardAndy CarrollNewcastle United
Yellow card! Carroll goes into the book for catching Willock with his arm while challenging aerially.
Arsenal chance! Finally, some goalmouth action! Luiz takes a quick free-kick, lifting a wonderful ball over the top for Aubameyang to run onto. He shoots powerfully at goal from a tight angle, Dubravka makes the save and Willian fires over from the rebound.
Newcastle have lost 17 of their last 19 matches at Arsenal, which takes some doing.
Arsenal's final ball continues to let them down, as Pepe cuts in from the flank but puts too much on his pass searching for Nelson at the far post.
Newcastle break through the middle, with Joelinton leading the charge through the middle. He stutters on the ball, though, only to play it wide to Carroll on the left side of the penalty area and his shot is easily blocked.
Cedric's deep cross is only partially cleared, as Arsenal keep the attack alive. But Willock's touch is too heavy as he tries to control Pepe's pass and Newcastle have the goal-kick.
Another Arsenal attack breaks down as Pepe makes an intelligent run but Willock's pass is played just behind the forward.
Nothing to get overly excited about after 15 minutes, with Arsenal enjoying the lion's share of possession - as expected - without ever looking like hurting Newcastle.
Newcastle are holding a nice defensive line, and Tierney is flagged offside. Bruce will be happy with how disciplined his side have been in the early stages.
Pepe lifts a lovely floated pass over the Newcastle defence, but Nelson - who may have been half-a-yard offside, can't get it under his control and the ball rolls out harmlessly for a Newcastle goal-kick.
Yellow card! An early booking for Lascelles, who puts an end to Arsenal's counter-attack with a cynical foul on Nelson.
Bruce is telling his players to get further forward as Newcastle enjoy a spell of possession. Clark and Dummett both aim crosses in the direction of Carroll, but Arsenal stand firm in defence.
Poor free-kick from Willian as he doesn't get any height on it and the Newcastle wall does its job.
Pepe gets the wrong side of Dummett, who brings the Arsenal forward down and concedes a free-kick in a threatening area.
A busy start for Dubravka, who is able to comfortably gather Pepe's shot from distance after he moved infield from the opposite channel.
Shot! Nelson is immediately involved, cutting in from the left flank and moving into a shoot position. He fails to get much power behind his daisy-cutter, though, and it's an easy save for the returning Dubravka.
Kick-off! The players take the knee before Newcastle get us underway at The Emirates.
A reminder of the teams as we approach kick-off time.
Arsenal XI: Leno, Cedric, Luiz, Mari, Tierney, Elneny, Willock, Pepe, Willian, Nelson, Aubameyang.. subs: Runarsson, Chambers, Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, Saka, Nketiah, Lacazette. /// Newcastle XI: Dubravka, Krafth, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett. Hayden, S Longstaff, Hendrick, Almiron, Joelinton, Carroll.. subs: Gillespie, M Longstaff, Ritchie, Gayle, Yedlin, Murphy, Anderson.
And here's the official confirmation...
Reiss Nelson is going to replace Martinelli in Arsenal's attack, according to reliable sources on Twitter.
There are just 15 minutes until kick-off, but it's still not clear if Arsenal's Martinelli will be able to play following an injury in the warm-up. Newcastle, meanwhile, are playing with Andy Carroll but don't have any natural wide players in their starting XI.
Martinelli is receiving treatment having gone to ground during the warm-up. Not what Arsenal fans wanted to hear.
Pre-match stat: Arsenal have only been eliminated at the third round stage of the FA Cup in one of the last 24 campaigns, against Nottingham Forest in January 2018.
Bruce on the FA Cup (via Newcastle Chronicle): "It's still one of the greatest sporting occasions of our sporting calendar, the FA Cup final is something which we all still enjoy. I have been fortunate enough, I've won it. The highlight of my career when we beat Chelsea 4-0 and I lifted the cup. It's something that schoolboys should still dream of and to be a lad from Wallsend to be able to go and do it, it's one of the highlights. That is why I still enjoy the cups. I am disappointed we reached two quarter-finals and didn't go any further."
Arteta on winning the FA Cup last season (per the official Arsenal website): "It was a beautiful day. It was the last game of the season, everyone took off after that and it was a really difficult end of the year with all the COVID situations that we had. Obviously it was a great day to finish the season on a high."
Did you know? Arsenal have won 14 of their last 15 matches against Newcastle in all competitions.
Andy Carroll's reward for scoring his first goal for Newcastle in 10 years in the home defeat to Leicester is a place in Bruce's starting XI, as he partners Joelinton, with Callum Wilson dropping out of the side altogether. Captain Jamal Lascelles is back following a battle with coronavirus and returns to the centre of defence. Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka makes his first start of the season after recovering from a heel injury.
Arteta has named a relatively strong team, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang featuring in a three-man attacking line alongside Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Martinelli. Other regulars such as Bernd Leno and Kieran Tierney are involved, but Thomas Partey misses out again with injury. Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe start on the bench.
Arsenal XI: Leno, Cedric, Luiz, Mari, Tierney, Elneny, Willock, Pepe, Willian, Martinelli, Aubameyang.. subs: Runarsson, Chambers, Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, Saka, Nelson, Smith Rowe, Nketiah, Lacazette. /// Newcastle XI: Dubravka, Krafth, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett. Hayden, S Longstaff, Hendrick, Almiron, Joelinton, Carroll.. subs: Gillespie, M Longstaff, Ritchie, Gayle, Yedlin, Murphy, Anderson.
Hello and welcome to Eurosport's LIVE text commentary of the FA Cup third round clash between Arsenal and Newcastle. Mikel Arteta's defending champions are heavy favourites to book their place in the fourth round of the competition having won their last three Premier League games. Steve Bruce, meanwhile, has been feeling the pressure since crashing out of the Carabao Cup to Brentford before Christmas, and although Premier League survival is Newcastle's priority, another cup defeat would only worsen the mood around St James' Park.
