Paper Round: Januzaj smarting at Mourinho 'humiliation'
Updated 11/08/2016 at 07:05 GMT
Adnan Januzaj is upset with Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger is counting on his players, and Jack Wilshere expects boos. It's Thursday's Paper Round.
Januzaj set for United exit after 'humilation'
Adnan Januzaj has been linked with a move to Sunderland for a few days now, and the word according to the Telegraph is that he's keen to leave after feeling humiliated by Jose Mourinho. He's not keen to train with the under-21s and is unhappy about his treatment by the new manager.
Paper Round's view: You can kind of see why Bastian Schweinsteiger feels annoyed about the way Mourinho has dismissed him, and why his compatriots are so angry about it it's nearly caused a major diplomatic incident - the man is a world champion, for goodness' sake, perhaps he's entitled to something despite his recent form. But Januzaj expecting more respect because he's made 63 first-team appearances? Not so much.
Wenger future to be decided by players
Arsene Wenger has a year left on his contract at Arsenal - but he's admitted that whether or not he sees that out will be entirely decided by how well his players perform this season. The Mirror report than Wenger knows that his team have to win a trophy in 2016-17 to keep everyone happy - else fan pressure is likely to force him out of the door.
Paper Round's view: We still find it difficult to believe that anyone is going to sack Wenger after so long. His contract may indeed tick down to zero, with no extension offered, whether that's his choice or not - but what's another trophyless season between friends?
Wilshere: We deserve to be booed
Still at Arsenal, Jack Wilshere is honest enough to admit that England players deserve stick after their horrendous display in France this summer. The Sun report that he and his team-mates are ready and waiting for the stick they'll get from fans when the Premier League kicks off.
Paper Round's view: They're not the first disappointing England team, and they certainly won't be the last. It seems unfair to boo them individually two months after the event, but at least they're prepared for it.
Data-entry problem with swimming in Rio
The Guardian run an intriguing story about the qualification times listed for swimmers at the Olympics - they don't match up with the times recorded at events, and in some cases they don't even match up with the swimmers who were actually competing at those events. FINA, the sport's governing body, blame the organising committee; the organising committee blame FINA.
Paper Round's view: To be honest, the Guardian's headline about it calling the competition into credibility is somewhat overblown. The numbers not adding up is the least of their problems while this internecine war rages about the sanctions for dopers in the sport.
