Pep Guardiola wants new full backs and Hugo Lloris thinks Paul Pogba will shine in the Premier League. It's Wednesday's Paper Round.

Guardiola on spending spree

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has his eye on two players, reports the Sun - Jose Gaya of Valencia, and Arsenal's Hector Bellerin. Neither club wants to let their full back go, though - so he might have to shell out £100m overall to nab the pair.
Paper Round's view: Well, whoever Guardiola goes after is likely to command a hefty sum, simply because other clubs know that City have expansive coffers and they'll pay a premium to secure their targets. It is interesting, however, that the City boss has decided to plan for the future by bringing in his own full backs rather than persisting with those signed by Manuel Pellegrini, just as he's shunted out other former regulars, not least goalkeeper Joe Hart. New broom Guardiola truly is sweeping his dressing room clean.
There's another question to deal with, though: would Arsenal let Bellerin go at any price? Certainly in the past decade or so they've been infamously ready to cash in on their crown jewels, offloading the likes of Cesc Fabregas, and seemingly not putting up much of a fight to persuade Robin van Persie to stick around rather than go to Manchester United - while Arsene Wenger was left bleating that it was difficult to find people who'd improve the squad. Will the Gunners have learned their lesson? This could be a big test to find out.

Top Pog set to sparkle

Paul Pogba is ready to impress Manchester United fans - just as he has his France team-mates. That's courtesy of the Daily Star, who report the words of Hugo Lloris, describing his colleague's "quality" after his impressive winning goal against the Netherlands.
Paper Round's view: It's difficult to feel sorry for someone who's had so much money paid for him - and who has emoji shaved into his hair. But it's probably instructive to heed Lloris's words about the expectation that transfer fee and publicity has put on to Pogba's shoulders. It would be good to see him replicate his international form in the Premier League on a consistent basis.

Villa appoint Bruce

Let's pass on congratulations to Steve Bruce, Aston Villa's seventh manager in the space of six years - according to the Mirror. He's set to be announced as the new boss of the Championship club by owner Dr Tony Xia.
Paper Round's view: Congratulations - and good luck. It's difficult to stay in that role - there's a weight of expectation and even more baggage. Bruce is bringing more of both with him - particularly with his track record in other parts of the West Midlands.

West Ham take over women's team

After a fortnight of controversy, West Ham have confirmed that they are adopting the women's team that bears their name, according to the Guardian. Last week West Ham Ladies' chairman Stephen Hunt had criticised the lack of support the Hammers had given him and his club, meaning the players were training on inadequate facilities; this week he has stepped down as Karren Brady announced that the women would be fully incorporated as "part of the West Ham family".
Paper Round's view: Well, embarrassing West Ham in a very public fashion seems to have worked - at least on the surface. Now it remains to be seen whether or not they'll invest in the women's team or if it's all for show. After a humiliating start to the Premier League season, with ongoing issues around their new home at the Olympic Park, perhaps some success for the women plus some broader community work might go some way towards giving the Hammers some pride.
