The summer of spending at Stamford Bridge continues with the arrival of Deivid Washington from Santos. The teenager has been tied down to a lengthy deal, after signing a seven-year contract with the option of a further year. The fee for Washington is reported to be £17.2 million. It remains uncertain as to whether he will follow in Angelo Gabriel's footsteps and head out on loan.

Pochettino lauds Chelsea signings but jokingly warns players 'I am not your friend'

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of forward Deivid Washington from Santos on a seven-year contract, with the option of a further year.
Washington, whose fee is reported to be around €20 million (£17.2m), is the second Brazilian youngster to arrive in West London from Santos this summer, after the club confirmed the arrival of Angelo Gabriel last month.
Gabriel has since joined Strasbourg on a season-long deal, and it remains unclear as to whether Washington will also head out on a temporary move for regular game time.
The 18-year-old leaves Santos after scoring six goals in 22 appearances for the Brazilian side in 2023, as the Blues continue to be active in the summer transfer window.
He began his career at Gremio before making the switch to Santos in 2016, where he subsequently rose through the youth team ranks and progressed through to the first team.
Washington’s senior Santos debut came in a Copa do Brasil clash in April, and he netted his first goal in a 3-0 Serie A win over Bahia a month later.
He joins a Chelsea side that is still waiting for their first win of the season after a 1-1 draw with Liverpool on the opening weekend, which was followed by a 3-1 defeat to West Ham.
After a slow start to the campaign that has seen his squad affected by wholesale changes, Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino has called for patience.
Speaking after that defeat to West Ham, he said: “We are disappointed, but this is only the beginning. We need to believe in the process. When we finish the market and have time to work, a lot of the players only arrived in the last few weeks, I think that we are going to be strong and for sure, we are going to be really competitive.”
The Blues are back in action on Friday night when they welcome newly-promoted Luton to Stamford Bridge.
The Hatters have not played since beginning their Premier League campaign with a sobering 4-1 defeat to Brighton.
