Manchester United are in the market for a new defender but David Alaba from Real Madrid would cost them over £50 million, according to reports. Arsenal could reportedly turn to in-form Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke if they miss out on Ivan Toney from Brentford, and Fulham's midfielder Joao Palhinha is said to be a target for Manchester City.

Alaba could cost Man Utd over £50m

Manchester United will have to pay Real Madrid €60 million (£51.5m) if they want to bring David Alaba to Old Trafford.
That’s according to a report in the Mirror which claims Erik ten Hag’s side face competition from Juventus for the 31-year-old’s signature.
United are said to be in the market for a new defender following the injury sustained by Lisandro Martinez.
“Real Madrid are reportedly set to demand €60 million (£51.5m) for David Alaba should he leave the club,” reads the article.
“The Austrian was previously a key player for the Spanish giants but a series of errors has seen his future called into question, according to Sport.
“It is suggested that Manchester United and Juventus are interested but that Real want to receive over £50m for the former Bayern Munich star.”
A report in TeamTalk claims Real Madrid are willing to allow the defender to leave but Alaba's injury in the 4-1 win over Villarreal on Sunday may complicate matters.

Arsenal could turn to Solanke if they miss out on Toney

Arsenal could reportedly turn to in-form Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke if they miss out on Ivan Toney from Brentford.
The Gunners have been linked with Toney after he scored 20 Premier League goals last season, although he is currently sidelined due to suspension for breaching betting rules.
But if they're unable to land the 27-year-old, they could look to sign Solanke, who has eight goals in 16 league games this season.
An article in Sunday's Metro reads: "Mikel Arteta will push for Arsenal to sign Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke if they miss out on Ivan Toney, according to reports.
"Arsenal are in the race to sign Toney in the January transfer window but will face competition from both Chelsea and Tottenham for the Brentford striker.
"Brentford are also holding out for a significant fee in the region of £80 million for the 27-year-old.
"According to the Daily Star, Arteta is considering alternative options to Toney and Bournemouth striker Solanke is on the Arsenal manager’s shortlist.
"The report claims that Bournemouth would be open to selling Solanke but would demand a £50m fee for the 26-year-old."

Man City target Palhinha from Fulham

Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha is a target for Manchester City, according to reports.
Palhinha has been a standout player at Craven Cottage since his arrival in July, 2022 and almost signed for Bayern Munich last summer.
A report in the Daily Star reads: "The Portuguese central midfielder, 28, is considered the best option available for the English champions as they aim to strengthen that position going into the second half of the campaign.
"With either Juventus or Bayern Munich expected to take Kalvin Phillips off City in the New Year window, Etihad boss Pep Guardiola wants to secure a superior replacement.
"Palhinha, under contract until June 2028, had been a target for Chelsea but their interest has cooled with under-pressure coach Mauricio Pochettino reluctant to add more players in that position.
"And the same applies to Liverpool, who had also been heavily linked with the ex-Sporting player. But if that is good news for Fulham manager Marco Silva, who is desperate to retain Palhinha, City entering the equation is a significant concern."
