Manchester United have made a move to strengthen their midfield with the acquisition of Morocco international midfielder Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina. The 27-year-old, who helped the Serie A side reach the UEFA Conference league final last season, as well has his nation to the World Cup semi-final in 2022, moves to Old Trafford on loan for a reported £8.5m fee.

Sofyan Amrabat is now officially a Manchester United player after joining on loan from Fiorentina.
The Morocco international joins Erik ten Hag's side on loan for a reported £8.5 million and it is believed United have the option of signing him on a permanent contract for £21.4m.
Amrabat told the official Man Utd website: “It is a huge honour to become a Manchester United player. I’ve had to be patient for this moment but I’m someone who always listens to my heart and now I am representing the club of my dreams.
“I am a passionate player; I want to bring that energy to the squad, and I will put everything into every action I take for the team.
“I know exactly how Erik ten Hag likes to work and what he needs from his players. His coaching and guidance developed me so much as a player earlier in my career.
“I know that he will help to bring out the best of my abilities so that I can help the group to be successful this season.”
Amrabat moves to Old Trafford amidst months of interest from multiple European teams.
The 27-year-old midfielder arrives in Manchester after plenty of speculation, with various clubs interested in his services across the summer, including Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. However, Ten Hag’s Devils came out on top to secure Amrabat’s signature.
The Netherlands-born midfielder began his playing career at FC Ultrecht before moves to Feyenoord, and Club Brugge pushed him into the European spotlight. A loan move to Hellas Verona allowed Amrabat to introduce himself in one of the ‘big five’ leagues, leading to the club making the deal permanent with a 3.6m euros transfer in 2020.
After only one season in Verona, Fiorentina paid 19.5m euros for the Moroccan, as awareness around his qualities expanded across Europe. He has played 107 times since signing for La Viola.
Amrabat has also made 49 international appearances for Morocco, most notably as an integral member of the squad coming fourth in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, knocking out Spain and Portugal along the way
With the departure of Fred to Fenerbache, a position in United’s midfield emerged, now set to be filled by the new Moroccan acquisition.
United have now signed three players on deadline day following the arrival of Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon on a short-term loan and Turkey goalkeeper Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce for £4.3m.
