A lull again after that brief flurry of action. Both sides are comfortable in possession but there's very little edge when the ball gets into the final third so far.
10'
More energy from both sides now, as Wales break the Irish line in midfield and find James on the left wing. He crosses dangerously to Moore at the back post, but he can't find a colleague when heading it back across the area and Ireland clear.

Better stuff from Ireland here as Molumby fights to win a ball on the edge of the Welsh area. He then finds Brady, who whips a cross in the penalty area, but Ampadu rises to clear the danger.
6'
Rodon tries a long one to Moore in the inside left channel, but it's overhit and runs out for a throw-in.

Wales have settled the better of the two sides here, and are knocking it around nicely in midfield.

The players take the knee before kick-off, because there is no room for racism.

That's the anthems done, it's time. This feels like a tough assignment for the home side, with the late disruption to their plans caused by the coronavirus and that disappointment in Slovakia less than 72 hours ago. Can they rouse a performance here?

Nearly time to go here on a crisp, sunny day in Dublin, your referee today is Anastasios Sidiropoulos.

There’s not much between these two sides. Wales have won seven to the Republic’s six, with four draws. The last time the two met was in the 2018-19 Nations League in Dublin in October 2018, where a Harry Wilson goal secured a 1-0 win for Wales.

An experimental Wales team lost a friendly to England on Thursday, but manager Ryan Giggs has generated a great deal of momentum in competitive games. In the last 12 months they have qualified for the European Championship next year, and made a perfect start to this current Nations League campaign with a pair of 1-0 victories over Finland and Bulgaria last month. A victory here today will leave them sitting pretty in the group with two home games still to come.

It’s been a deflating week for Republic of Ireland, who come into this game after losing their 2018-19 Nations League semi-final to Slovakia on penalties on Thursday. It was a tough one to take, but they need to regroup and quickly as there’s much ground to recover in the current Nations League. The Irish only took one point from their first two fixtures and sit third in the group. New manager Stephen Kenny is trying to change the style of play to something more expansive that begins out of defence, so today is another staging post in that development as he looks for his first win as Ireland manager.

The major news for Wales this afternoon is the return to midfield of Juventus’ Aaron Ramsey, who takes the captain’s armband. There’s also a milestone for Wayne Hennessey, who earns his 93rd cap today. That makes him the most capped Welsh goalkeeper in history, putting him one ahead of the great Neville Southall.

There are a raft of changes for the home side after a physically and emotionally draining night in Slovakia three days ago and a positive coronavirus test within the camp causing four withdrawals from the squad today. Shane Long, Kevin Long, Robbie Brady and Jayson Molumby all come into the side.
