UK and Ireland confirmed as hosts of Euro 2028, Italy and Turkey will co-host Euro 2032

The UK and Ireland have been confirmed as hosts for Euro 2028.

The tournament will take place in June and July of 2028, and will be held across 10 stadia – six in England and one each in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

The UK and Ireland bid went unopposed after Turkey switched focus to bidding for Euro 2032 along with Italy. That selection has also been confirmed by UEFA.

It has been reported that all five hosts for Euro 2028 will go through qualifying.

Usually the host nations receive automatic qualification for the finals, however as there are five nations that will not be the case this time.

The Athletic reports that two automatic spots will be held back for host nations if they don't qualify, but if more than two don't qualify then the places will go to the two nations with the best record.

A statement from the Football Association said: "The UEFA Euro 2028 bid was successful thanks to its clear and compelling vision to help domestic and European football grow a more diverse and inclusive game, connect with new audiences and inspire the next generation of players, fans and volunteers.

"The UK and Ireland expressed this vision as ‘Football for all. Football for good. Football for the future’."

The UK hosted games during the re-arranged Euro 2020, which was held across the continent, but this will be the first time it has had the entire tournament since Euro 1996, which was just played across England.

Matches in England at Euro 2028 will be played across six venues: Wembley, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Etihad Stadium, St James' Park, Villa Park and Everton's new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.
