More joy down the left for Germany ends with Sasic misjudging Kemme's cross and heading high over the bar.

Behringer angles the diagonal ball into the box but once more the England defence stands firm. Houghton and Bassett have been superb so far.

Wonderful turn from Petermann catches England off guard but her attempt to slip the ball behind the defence is brilliantly read by Bronze who gets across to make a vital interception.

If the last 20 minutes or so are anything to go by, those predicting an England v Germany penalty shoot-out based upon history in the men's game may not be far off! Very tight.

Schmidt curves it into the area from the right but it's too close to Bardsley who plucks it out of the air.
    37'
Ellen White has been well marshalled so far. She's not really been able to make anything stick to bring her teammates into play.
    35'
Half chance for Sasic but she can't control the fizzed pass into the area and it spins off her knee into the grateful arms of Bardsley.
    34'
Another England free kick is hoisted towards White but Germany handle it with the minimum of fuss.
    33'
It's a much more even contest now which will please Sampson and his coaching staff.
    31'
Bronze showing why she has been short-listed for player of the tournament as she jinks in form the right, cuts into the area but just dallies enough for Germany to deny her the strike on goal.
    30'
More good hands from Bardsley as she gathers the corner, palming it down with one hand before claiming on the turf.
    29'
Greenwood with some smart defending as she guides behind for a corner with Dabritz lurking at the far post.
    28'
Great clips on Twitter doing the rounds of that Houghton clearance. Well worth another look.
    27'
After a bright start, Germany have lost their way a bit. Neither side putting too much of note together.

Free kick to England just inside the Germany half after some lovely feet from Carney. It's worked short to Houghton on the left but her whipped cross is guided well wide by an under pressure White.
