End of 2nd Half

And that's full-time. Netherlands are in the quarter-finals!
It's heartbreak for Japan, who had so many chances to qualify for the last eight but fluffed their lines and then gave away a dramatic penalty in the last minute of normal time. There's jubilation on the Dutch bench but they rode their luck there.

AMAZING BLOCK!
Sugita's effort seems bound for the bottom corner but Spitse makes a great block. A huge scramble begins in the Dutch box and eventually the European champions are reprieved by a dubious decision to award them a free kick.

GOAL!
Martens steps up and keeps her cool! Yamashita goes the wrong way and surely the Dutch are in the last eight.

PENALTY!!
What a chance for the Netherlands. Beerensteynat does brilliantly to skip into the box from the right and the ball is forced to Miedema. She strikes it and it hits Kumagai's arm and the Dutch have a chance to reach the quarter-finals.

Another Japan chance!
Momiki slips the ball to Miura in the right hand channel of the box and she shoots but it goes over when she had to work Van Veenendaal at least.

BIG SAVE!
Momiki takes a great touch to beat Van de Donk and shoots, forcing Van Veenendaal into the best save of the game. Netherlands are hanging on by a thread.

OFF THE BAR!
So close to a winner from Japan as Sugita cuts in on to her left foot and unleashes a powerful shot which had Van Veenendall beaten but it crashes off the woodwork.

Miedema peels away to the back post and tries to head a corner back across the face of goal but the ball is cleared.

Big chance!
Bloodworth comes out of defence and gives the ball away. Iwabuchi peels into the space left by the centre-back and elects to shoot, finding the side netting, instead of pulling it back to Sugasawa.

Groenen comes steaming into the box to get a partially-cleared cross under her control and shoots but Ichise makes the block.

Iwabuchi turns on the style, back-heeling the ball into the path of Hasegawa, who shoots just wide from a narrow angle. If the Dutch had showed that sort of link-up play at some points in this second half they could be ahead once more.

An evening to forget for Shanice van de Sanden comes to an end. Thankfully, meanwhile, Groenen is fit to continue.

Groenen goes down under a heavy challenge from Nakajima. Replays showed that the Japan winger got the ball but caught Groenen's ankle on the follow through and that looked very painful.

More good centre-forward play from Miedema, who gathers the ball and looks to slip in Van de Donk but she cannot get it under control.

What a shot!
Van Veenendaal has not had much to do but she's alert to an effort from way out from Nakajima which looked to be nestling in the corner but the former Arsenal goalkeeper gets down well to punch it away.
62'
Miedema seizes upon a defence mistake from Kumagai and charges towards the box, drawing defenders towards her. When she looks to play in Van de Sanden for a one-on-one the right winger fails to read her intentions and an opportunity goes begging.

Decent chance for Japan. Iwabuchi holds the ball up well and finds Sugita, who feeds Sugasawa, who blasts over under little pressure and from a decent position.
