England will continue their pursuit of a first Women's World Cup triumph when they face fellow Europeans Spain in the final. The Lionesses have reached the last four for a third consecutive World Cup, but unlike 2015 and 2019, they are down to the final two and eyeing a momentous victory. Sarina Wiegman's side defeated co-hosts Australia with a 3-1 semi-final victory in Sydney.

'It feels brutal right now' - Ilestedt after Sweden losing to Spain in World Cup semis

England will play Spain in the 2023 Women’s World Cup final as both sides aim to win the tournament for the first time.
Sarina Wiegman’s side are hoping to add to their 2022 European Championships trophy by lifting the World Cup to establish themselves as the leading team in international football.
The Lionesses were not at their best in the group stage of this World Cup, and victories over Nigeria and Colombia were hard-fought, if unconvincing, but they were 3-1 winners when they came up against co-hosts Australia in the semi-finals.
Spain scored 12 goals in three group stage games, and hit another five as they crushed Switzerland in their round-of-16 tie, before defeating Netherlands in the quarter-finals, and then Sweden in the semis, winning both matches 2-1.
Spain are a dangerous side in their own right, and in Aitana Bonmati, Jenni Hermoso and Alba Redondo, they boast three players who each have three goals to their name already.
Here is everything you need to know ahead of England's World Cup final clash with Spain.

Wiegman salutes England's 'ruthlessness'

Lionesses boss Wiegman celebrated her team's achievement in reaching the final, hailing their ability to "stick to the plan".
"We achieved the final and it's unbelievable," she told BBC Sport. "It feels like we won it, but we haven't won it. It's incredible. The stadium, an away game. The way we played... it was of course a hard game, but again we found a way to win.

"We scored three goals. You've been talking about ruthlessness all the time. I think this team has ruthlessness.
"Whether it's up front or defence, we've really wanted to keep the ball out of the net. We really want to win. We stick together and we stick to the plan and it worked again.
"They've done an incredible job. They really grew into the tournament. They had to win the last game in the group stage and played better and better. Sam Kerr came back and we saw today why she's the star of the team. They're a really tough team but what a performance.
"To make it to the final is really special. I never take anything granted, but am I in a little fairytale or something?"
