South Africa were briefly on course for their first-ever Women's World Cup points when they took a 48th-minute lead against Sweden in their group-stage match on Sunday in Wellington, New Zealand. However Sweden hit back to level before Amanda Ilestedt popped up with a last-minute header to send her side top of the table after the first match played in Group G.

Sweden pulled off a stunning 2-1 comeback win over South Africa on Sunday in Wellington, New Zealand at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
Amanda Ilestedt scored in the last minute of the game after it appeared that the two sides would share the points in their group-stage match.
South Africa are the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations champions but are still without a World Cup point. They made their debut in the tournament in 2019, but lost every match.
It was South Africa who took the lead first, when Hildah Magaia struck three minutes into the second half as she pounced on the rebound from Thembi Kgatlana’s effort.
Kgatlana was substituted shortly afterwards after suffering an injury in the process of assisting her side's opener.
South Africa almost doubled their lead when Refilo Jane sent the ball just over the bar from 40 yards, having seen Zecira Musovic was off her line.
However Sweden soon levelled through Frida Rolfo's deflected effort, the ball coming off Lebohang Ramalepe.
Sweden completed their comeback in the final throws of the game as Ilestedt headed home in the 90th minute to snatch victory and send them top of the group.
Sweden had struggled to create dangerous chances for much of the match until the winning header.
In the group’s next match, Argentina will face Italy on Monday.
