Belgium - Algeria live updates

It’s a bit of a step into the unknown for both teams tonight. The teams have played twice with Belgium winning once, the other a draw.

Algeria were the last African qualifiers, beating Burkina Faso 1-0 in the second leg of their play-off to advance on away goals after a 3-2 first-leg defeat.

Though only playing in their first finals since 2002, Belgium came to the tournament as bookmakers' fifth favourites behind Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Spain.

STAT: The only Arab nation present in Brazil, Algeria have failed to score in their last five finals matches, a record they share with Bolivia. With 481 minutes played since Djamel Zidane netted their last goal in a 1-1 draw with Northern Ireland in 1986, the Algerians could surpass the all-time longest drought of 517 minutes, also established by Bolivia.

Vahid Halilhodzic (Algeria): "The team showed it could win over top teams. We leave for the World Cup with a good track record. We could have scored more goals if we had been more effective in front… I've some ideas but for now I have yet to work out 100 percent the team that will play the first game of the World Cup. Belgium is a notch above Romania."

Marc Wilmots (Belgium): "I'm not especially worried because I care more about my team than the opponent but we do work, it's always the same thing. We do a video analysis of the last 10 games, yes the last 10, to know every starting 11. I won't give you my sheets that I've got here, but I know about each player individually and in which system they played. So we are ready, we know everything about Algeria, but what I'm interested in is that our players know all about it.”
